3 Places to Find the Best Burgers in the Alton, Illinois Area

I do not know anyone who does not like a good hamburger. Whether it is a juicy burger or flame-broiled, hamburgers have become one of America's favorite sandwiches. Pile them high was onions, tomato, lettuce, and pickles or as we like to say, "Drag it through the garden", or have a burger the way my grandson prefers, "cheeseburger plain." In the Alton, Illinois area, there are three area restaurants that offer delicious burgers, Fast Eddies Bon Air, Hardees, and Spring Garden Family Restaurant.

Fast Eddies Bon Air

First on my burger list is Fast Eddies Bon Air, located at 1530 East 4^th Street, just off Broadway. For Missouri residents take highway 367 over the Clark Bridge, which spans the Mississippi River, make a right, and go about two blocks, Fast Eddies is on the left. Famous for having the coldest beer and cheap eats, Fast Eddies is a great place for 21 and older people to meet and hang out. Besides the menu having $.29 peel 'n' eat shrimp, hot chick on a stick, pork kabobs, and others, this is home to the $.99 one-half pound Fat Eddie Burger. The price might be cheap, but the taste is anything but. Fast Eddies is open for dining Monday through Thursday 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Hardees

Although many people considered it one of the unhealthiest burger (1060 calories, 720 from fat), the Six Dollar Grilled Cheese Bacon Thickburger at Hardees is by far one of the tastiest burgers in the Alton area. Crisp bacon, mayonnaise, and Swiss and American cheese sit upon a one-third pound, charbroiled 100 percent Black Angus beef burger sandwiched between grilled sourdough bread. Located at 2720 Godfrey Rd. in Godfrey, Illinois, Hardees also offers one-fourth and two-thirds beef thickburgers. Hardees menu also includes hot ham n cheese, fish and chicken sandwiches. The great thing about Hardees is that they are open 24 hours a day.

Spring Garden Family Restaurant

If you prefer a 'mom and pop' type of atmosphere, then Spring Garden Family Restaurant is the place to dine. This restaurant, which serves breakfast any time of day and has a variety of main dishes, has one great tasting double patty burger. The juices drip off these burgers, which are cooked to the customer's specifications. For less than $5.00, you can get a double burger with fries. You can "drag it through the garden" and/or have crispy bacon and cheese added. Spring Garden is open seven days a week 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
