They provide protection while traveling. Most eBook reader owners bought their devices for the portability. What the iPod did for music, the Kindle and similar products have done for books, right?
The trouble is that when you travel, you're rarely going to have your eBook reader on your person the whole time. It's probably going to be in your bag with a whole bunch of other stuff that could easily come into contact with the screen. Remember, while most good eBook readers use screens that are grainy enough to avoid showing scratches, they're not perfect.
Buying a cover for your Kindle or whatever other eBook reader you're using will prevent you from arriving at your destination with scratches or cracks that ruin your reading experience.
They keep the dust off. Dust isn't a major concern for most readers, but it should be. Dust can be annoying, and you'll have to clean it off before you start each reading session. Crumbs and other little stuff can easily get onto your eBook reader's screen. Dust can even damage the components that allow your eBook reader to charge, which can ruin it permanently. An eBook reader cover will quickly help you to avoid this fate.
They're cheap. Most eBook readers are extremely inexpensive, as long as you're not trying to find one of the super-awesome designer ones. You can get a cheap eBook reader that will provide sufficient protection for only a few bucks, and it's well worth the investment to keep your reader working well for years to come.
That's not to mention the fact that eBook reader covers can be quite stylish. If you're into that sort of thing, why not make your shiny new reader look the way that you want it to look? There are hundreds of options available from the companies that manufacture eBook readers and from third party suppliers, so pick one up. It's worth the money.
