3 Reasons to Consider an Extended Warranty for Your New Computer

Overprice or Undervalued - You Be the Judge

Whenever you buy a new computer, they'll come a time in the sales process when the salesperson brings up the topic of extended warranties. Most customers instinctively dismiss this extra expense as being a waste of money, but there are a few reasons you should take a moment to consider the extended warranty before denying it.

#1 Peace of mind

Contrary to popular belief, your laptop or computer will expire some day - and like the day you'll expire; you won't know the date it'll happen. Most people avoid the extra cost of an extended warranty and choose to rely on faith and chance as a method of insurance for their laptop or computer. With an extended warranty you can stop the unreliable method of just hoping nothing will go wrong. You can enjoy your computer or laptop with the insurance that when something goes wrong with your computer, you'll have an extended warranty to fall back on.

#2 Avoiding the manufacturer's warranty

As customers we place too high a value on the manufacturer's warranty and too little value on the in-store warranty. The most common object to an extended warranty is "Doesn't this already come with a warranty" or "I'll just use the manufacturer's warranty". What most customers fail to see is the benefit and convenience of just coming into the store and getting a new computer or laptop instead of going through their manufacturer's customer support, sending in their computer, and waiting several weeks for their manufacturer to repair your laptop or computer and send it back to you. Even worse is the fact that if something wrong with your computer or laptop that isn't covered in the manufacturer's warranty, they'll send you a repair bill. With an in-store warranty you can avoid being stuck without your laptop or computer for several weeks and have the issue resolved a lot quicker.

#3 Warranties can cost less in the long run

Let's face it; the main issue with an extended warranty is the price. If an extended warranty was free and customers were given the choice between the manufacturer's warranty and an extended warranty, I doubt any customer would opt for the manufacturer's warranty. Extended warranties can seem expensive at face value but if you factor in that extended warranties can last as long as 3 years and the cost of being forced to buy a new computer or laptop at full retail price - the cost of an extended warranty starts to make sense. Extended warranties are viewed as just being an extra cost for a laptop or computer but they are best viewed as insurance for your computer - and at worst as a down payment on a new laptop or computer (if you opt for store credit). If you don't buy an extended warranty and your computer breaks down after a year (when the manufacturer's warranty is void) you'll have to pay full retail price for a new computer or laptop but with an extended warranty you'll be able to swap for a new computer or get store credit for the value of your laptop or computer. If you paid less money for your extended warranty than you did for your computer, you just saved money and had a worry free experience the entire time.
