3 Reasons You Should Drink Coffee

Antioxidant Invasion

If you drink coffee, your number one source for antioxidants comes from coffee ('Coffee is number one source of antioxidants' and 'Coffee is Loaded With Antioxidants'). If you don't drink coffee, then I'm not sure where you're getting your superhero protection from diseases like cancer and heart disease. Antioxidants still aren't well understood (Dear Science, please figure it out...), but have been linked to helping prevent disease. [Dear Science, by the way, is a pretty solid album by an 'art rock' band called TV On The Radio]

Microcosm of the Macrocosm

This is referring to, in part, the alchemical tradition of viewing the individual as an exact model (sort of-really, the subject is quite dense and too tortuous to explain here) of the universe. The macrocosm, or bigger existence, is manifested in the microcosm, or the smaller entity. View the concept, 'The Cosm' to better understand the concept. It is simplified and makes a great place to start learning about this.

Coffee is no different, and truly is a microcosm of the universe. Coffee is infinite, because of its endless subtleties, acidity, heaviness, darkness, viscosity, and geographical location. Combining those variations, the possibilities of every cup of coffee are endless. Added to that are specific coffee-brewing devices, the amount of coffee being brewed, and even the particular mindset of the person drinking it.

Within coffee is the universe. Possibly every earthly substance could be included in that category, but nothing, in my experience, exudes the bigger picture as adroitly as coffee. And by adroitly, I mean ingeniously.

A Legal Drug

Coffee is a drug. You know that. It supposedly has some negative side effects, but this isn't a hit piece, so I will not include them. Sex has negative side effects also (like...babies), but that doesn't seem to stop anybody from excessive copulation. And by excessive, I mean sex that is practiced outside of its biological intention. And by sex, I mean coitus.

Coffee is an upper. It makes you go faster. And that can be pleasant. This is one reason the United States hasn't banned this drug-coffee speeds you up and, ideally, makes you work faster. Coffee is the perfect drug for the person on the assembly line, working in the factory, doing blue collar labor. Production increases. You can screw the doodad onto the widget faster.

This isn't a knock against coffee. To sip coffee while reading a book or writing a mediocre story or article, or even during conversation (with yourself or somebody else), is to enhance the setting, become hyper-aware, and process information faster. This might not always be beneficial, but is worth exploring.

Coffee has enhanced my life, and I get pleasure out of suggesting that you, too, enhance your life with the same, legal drug.

I don't get all the positive effects of coffee, since I must drink decaff. But I savor the flavor and adore the smell of freshly ground coffee beans. Good article.

I just got one of those cool Kuerig coffee machines that uses K-cups and I'm really really enjoying it. After reading your article, I now know why.

Sex//////You may have hit on something there :) While working in corporate America, I somedays could not function without a major cup of coffee. I had an employee who knew when I needed her coffee. She would always go into the break room, make it and let me know 'Coffee was ready'. She made the very best and it seemed to ease my 'anxiety' so I could go on without having a cuniposun fit (Did I spell that right?) Great article Adam!

Coffee in moderation is good. Otherwise I cannot drink it regularly. When I do, you might want to stand far away from me. lol. It fiddles with my stomach! Very good article!
