3 Reasons Why Women, or Anyone Else, Should Sleep on Silk Pillowcases

Gayle Parks
Silk used to be viewed as the height of luxury but now days it is fairly common in most households. I personally like to wear silk or a silk/rayon blend because of its graceful drape and smooth glide. Sleeping on silk sheets and pillowcases is also high on my list of creature comforts. However, I have read recently that there may actually be some health and beauty benefits to sleeping on silk pillowcases. For the most part there are three good reasons for women to sleep on silk pillowcases: body temperature and the regulation thereof, control of allergies, and skin and hair care and control.

Regulation of body temperature.

Because silk is breathable it wicks moisture away from the body making it a great choice for older women, like me, who have frequent hot flashes during the night. It is also a good choice for those who do not have air conditioning helping to keep you more comfortable during those hot summer nights. However, it is also warm so it makes good winter time bedding. Silk pillowcases keep you cool and comfortable when you need it and warm and cozy when you need it. For comfort, you just can't beat a silk pillowcase.

Control of allergies.

Silk is also hypoallergenic which makes it beneficial for women, or anyone else, who have asthma as well as those allergic to dust mites, mold or other irritants. Silk pillowcases do not attract dust mites, mold or fungus.

Skin and hair care and control.

Silk Pillowcases are said to reduce facial wrinkles and may prove to be less irritating then cotton or other material blends. Silk does not pull and tug at delicate facial skin like regular cotton can and therefore will not leave marks, redness or wrinkles on your face. Likewise, since it does pull or tug and has a smooth surface it helps reduce hair tangling which will make for an easier brushing the next morning.

I have always liked sleeping on silk simply because it feels good against my skin. These other positive features only served to make it more desirable. If you need to feel cool and comfortable choose a silk pillowcase. If you need to be warm, choose a silk pillowcase. Want fewer wrinkles and marks on your face in the morning? Want fewer tangles and peaks in your hair in the morning? Choose a silk pillowcase; you will be glad you did.

Silk is actually not made from an animal but from the cocoon of the silk worm. Sound kind of yucky but people have been sleeping on silk for over 3000 years. Used especially by royals to keep themselves looking younger longer. Plus it keeps your hairstyles fresh & helps prevent fine lines & wrinkles. http://www.essenceofsilk.com has the best prices & selection.

Great info but I try to buy things not made from animals for the most part. Great article.
