You can customize the colors in these retro kitchen crafts to suit the retro kitchen look you have already started. Some other fun retro colors beside a bright shiny red ore canary yellow, robins egg blue, and a fresh spring green!
Retro Kitchen Makeover #1: Retro Kitchen Flooring
You can paint your existing flooring to suit the retro kitchen look in so many ways. If you have plastic vinyl floors, then simple clean your floors. Sand them and then wipe away all the dust.
Prime them out. Now, you are ready to paint a fun checkered retro kitchen floor. Use oil based paints and tape off checks. You can stick with black and white or even use 2 colors.
Now, if you have wood floors, try taping off the squares. Paint every other square a fun retro color. Leave the others the wood tone.
If you have tile floors that ar outdated, then you can paint those as well. Prime and seal them first with an oil base paint. Then paint every other tile in any colors you wish.
Be sure to seal any floor with at least 3 to 4 coats of an oil based polyurethane.
The only floor I would not seal would be the wood floor.
Retro Kitchen Makeover #2: East Retro Beadboard Walls
Want the look of beadboard, but hate cutting wood. Check out your local hardware store or home imporvemtn store of embossed wall paper that looks like beadboard. It works just like wall paper, but is meant to be painted. You can add a chair rail as the top to finish the faux beadboard look off.
For a fun retro look try hanging the faux beadboard about 5 feet tall. Then top off with a shelf right at the top. You can lien this with all your retro kitchen accessories! Fun!
Of course you can always by sheets of pre primed faux beadboard as well. These can be glued and nailed to wall and top off with a shelf as well!
Retro Kitchen Makeover #3: Retro Photos
Ok, so you rent your home! You can still add some fun retro touches using frames photos! Try using bright shiny red frames to frame out photos of retro kitchen appliances, retro or vintage ads, and even black and white photos.
Hang then in grouping on the wall. You can even use them to outline chair rails, window frames, and counters! All you have to do is fill some small picture holes when you move!
