3 Romantic Dining Experiences in Austin, TX

Eloah James
If you are looking for a romantic dinner for 2 in Austin, Texas that doesn't require a translator or a reservation, and you have some money to burn, consider Texas Land & Cattle Steak House on 183 near Lakeline Mall. While it might not sound so very romantic, the interior is quiet, dimly lit and cozy. Each table and booth has a candle and feels like its own private little space. The wait staff is friendly and attentive, without hovering over the diners. The food choices may not extend much past the standard steak house fare, but every item is well-prepared and a pleasure to eat. Meals start around $9 for a burger on up to $25 for their best steak. If a steak arrives cooked more or less than you requested, the error will be corrected quickly and with a smile. And to round off the romantic meal, a rich slice of their Bourbon Pecan Pie is a dessert perfect for couples to share.

If your significant other is expecting something a little more upscale, something a little more trendy, you can make a reservation for the Cool River Café on Parmer Lane. If you forgot to call ahead, they will seat you if they can, though you may have to wait at least 30 minutes for a table. Their seafood is some of the best you can find so far inland and if they should have MahiMahi on the daily special, please do give it a try. The atmosphere is light and modern, but still private and romantic. The lighting isn't quite as dim as TXLC, but the distance between tables makes up for that. Entrees start at $18, up to about twice that.

For a more casual and less expensive dinner for 2 that still maintains a romantic mood, stop by Jardin Corona on Pond Springs Road. Entrees start at around $6 up to about $15, but everything on the menu is as delicious as a pricier restaurant. In addition, the Pond Springs location has low lighting and high backed booths that help make a romantic dining experience feel more intimate. In addition to great food their cocktails, which include a sweet and tangy Sangria Swirl Margarita and a slightly savory shaker of Mexican martinis, are some of the best in the city. The Chimichanga Jardin is one of their best dishes, but expect leftovers because it's also larger than most steaks.
