3 Simple St. Patrick's Day Party Favors

Donna Thacker
If you plan to host a St. Patrick's Day party, you already know you need to have green this and green that as far as food and decorations. Plan to have a few unusual party favors that lend to the St. Patrick's Day theme. It will keep them munching while they socialize. These party favors are also kid friendly, so there is no need to worry about who gets what.

Little Pot of Gold

Everyone wishes that the leprechaun would deliver them a pot of gold on St. Patrick's Day so why not help their wish come true. You will need to collect some of the tiny little black cauldrons that are used at Halloween time to distribute little buckets of candy. You may have to plan ahead for this, or ask a craft store to order you some. Check on line at various craft stores that may stock them all year round.

Once you have your tiny black cauldrons, fill them with candy coins that come wrapped in foil. Tie a green ribbon to the little handle, or you can even decorate them up with some glue and glitter. Set your little pots of gold out wherever your guests are going to be. If you are serving a meal, set the little pots of gold at each dinner setting, or throughout the center of the table.

Lucky Leprechaun Bags

What would St. Patrick's day be without pink hearts, blue moons and ...yes...tiny marshmallows! Yes, you guessed it; you are going to need a box of Lucky Charms. You also need that see through wrapping paper; you know the kind that Easter Baskets are wrapped in? You can purchase that in rolls at craft stores or online. Choose it in green or gold to stick with the theme.

Cut the colored film in 8 X 8" squares. Pour about a cup full of the Lucky Charms cereal into the center and then gather up the corners and sides and tie it together with a green or gold ribbon or to make a pouch. Leave the lengths of ribbon long so that you can curl it up. To curl the ends, you need to pull it across the blade of a knife or scissors to curl it.

Magical Marshmallows

Watch these disappear! Place a bag of tiny marshmallows into a gallon size plastic kitchen storage bag. Sprinkle in some green store bought sugar cookie sprinkles. You can buy this at Christmas and keep it stocked up, or you can make your own by adding food coloring to regular sugar. Shake the marshmallows up to coat them with the green sugar.

You can dispense the sugary marshmallows to your guests in many creative ways. For a little elegance, and decorating, fill small brandy snifter glasses with the marshmallows and set them on the table as a center piece. Wind some green and gold Mardi Gras beads around the stem and you are done. Your guests have munchies and you have quick St. Patrick's Day decorations and party favors all rolled into one.
