Missy Slink
While it is true that skirts are wardrobe staples that last throughout the decades, the specific styles of these skirts definitely changes with the seasons of the year. This oncoming spring/summer's skirts styles are a fun combination of old and new ideas. However, all of these styles are worth investing in, as they are sure to roll around into style again once they fizzle out from the scene in year or two. Here are several fashion trends to be on the look out for this year when organizing your spring wardrobe.

1. High- waisted: A leftover trend from last year (and deeply inspired by the vintage years before that), high -waisted skirts are still an "in" item. Great for covering up that extra cookie you ate with your lunch, high-waisted skirts are generally flattering on many figures. Available in most female fashion shops in your local mall, this skirt style in one that will probably be around for years to come. (And even if it fades for a while, you can probably still pull it off and call your style "vintage" until it rolls back into mainstream fashion again.) Finish off this skirt's style with a plain (solid) colored t-shirt tucked into the skirt, a cardigan, and possibly a cute belt (when appropriate).

2. Pleated: Reminiscent of childhood school uniforms, pleated skirts are back in fashion. Generally falling on the shorter-than-knee-length side of the scale, these skirts are great for making your legs appear quite elongated. Cute, fun, and amazingly versatile, pleated skirts are a fun fashion trend of this spring/summer season. Many of these skirts also fall into the "high-waisted" category, thus making them doubly fashionable. Pair your pleated skirt with a classy blouse to dress it up or a simple t-shirt to dress it down. Check out UrbanOutfitters or ModCloth for a good range of pleated skirts styles.

3. Floral prints: Another childhood favorite (think: Easter Sunday dresses), floral prints are blooming all over the fashion world this season. Available in a variety of colors (from black and white prints to bright, colorful patterns), these dresses/skirts/rompers are springing up everywhere. While there certainly are an abundance of floral options on the market today (from blouses to shoes to umbrellas and more), you may wish to tune down your floral bouquet of an outfit by just pairing up a floral printed skirt with a solid colored top. Check out ModCloth, Tommy Hilfiger, or other fashion staple providers for fun floral prints this season.
