3 Things You Can Do with Hairspray

Maggie Blake
Hairspray has always had one purpose; to hold hair in place. Most people know that. So it does seem odd to think of more than one other use for hairspray that people have come up with, but these are a few. They all have to do with preserving and perfecting the look, but each one in its own unique way.

Roll Away Fly-Away's - Pesky fly-away's are something that no-one is lucky enough to avoid, everyone gets them and so it has become accepted as normal. However, there is a brief escape available to anyone who has a can of hairspray. Try this little trick and you'll stand out as the one person who doesn't seem to be burdened by unwanted fly-away's. Style your hair any which way you would like, then when you are done, hairspray any short fly-away's you might have and roll over them slowly with the hairspray can while your hair is still wet so the trick will set in before your hair has time to dry the wrong way. Most every hairspray bottle has a smooth metal surface that won't cause friction when you roll over your hair, causing the fly-aways to stick to your head and your head only. Roll from the top of the fly-away to the bottom, remove from against your head and start at the top again until the fly-away appears to be firm in place. Do not roll from the start to the end and back to the start, this will do nothing to keep the fly-away from just sticking straight up.

Keep Hair In Place Without Stiffness - Whilehairspray has been a lifesaver in countless circumstances for many of us, there is one negative side-effect to hairspray and that is stiffness. Unfortunately a perfect hairdo comes at a cost, that being immobility. Although the creativity for any style that requires a strong hold hairspray is admired, the unusual look of a plastic hold is not very appealing. To prevent this, before you style your hair run a brush that has been sprayed with hairspray through your hair. This will make your hair slightly wet and easy to style, and when your hair dries it will create a stronger hold than if you hadn't used hairspray. Because of the hairspray you used before you created your style, once your style is complete it will require less hairspray to hold the finished product. This will prevent an overdoing of hairspray and keep your hair from looking to plastic and fake when you have finished.

Unless I'm missing something, this article only shows two things...not the three touted in the title.

Great tips! Loved the one for the fly aways, I'll have to try that one!
