You may be wondering what are the fails in Nascar? Less begin with rain delays. If you are a fan and have the opportunity to see a race in person you know how exciting it can be. Yet weather is a deciding factor in the Spring Cup series. Take a look at the 2009 Daytona 500. Matt Kennesth won his 17 Sprint Cup win as well as his first Daytona 500 win due to a rain delay. Did Kennesth deserve to win? Probably. He was have an exceptional day and it did appear he would win yet there were still plenty of laps to go that could have change the outcome. David Reutimann won his first ever Sprint Cup win in the 2009 Coca-Cola 600. Did Reutimann deserve to win. Probably not. It just happened he was in the right place at the right time when they called the race.
Now imagine spending the money to go see a Sprint Cup race live. Depending on how much you plan to spend you are looking at anywhere from $200-2000. The cost includes tickets, travel expenses, lodging, food, and of course money for the souvenir stands as well as Pit Passes.
Imagine spending that kind of money to get through half the race and have a winner declared or to sit in the rain for hours only to be told it will be postpone until the following day. It is common knowledge the economy is not the great so what happens if the race is canceled until the following day. That is relatively easy. You either call in sick to work or you go home.
Rain Delays are only one of the problems with Nascar. The second one are the Pit Passes. For $50 you can buy a pass that will allow you into the pit area. This sounds all grand but the chances of meeting your favorite driver is not a guarantee. Yes you may or may not see a driver walking around but that still does not mean you get in. More Pit Passes are sold than what are allowed back there. So if you do not get in you just wasted your money because Nascar does not do refunds. Some of you may say this has to do with the track you are at. Nope. The policy falls to every Nascar track. So remember, if you are not much on gambling you may not want to purchase a pit pass since there is no guarantee you will even get into the pits.
So what can Nascar do to solve these issues?
First they can begin by making the Sprint Cup cars more accessible to rain, much like the way the Nationwide Series is. By doing this Nascar would make things more exciting for the fans. Part of the reason people love Nascar is because it is unpredictable. You never know when there will be a wreck and who it will be. By making the vehicles more adaptable to the weather it is giving it a little bit more excitement as well as making it more challenging for the drivers. You all know drivers excel in different conditions, whether it is night or day, short track or long track, so what not allow weather to become a full factor?
The second option Nascar could do in the even there is a rain delay is to postpone the whole race instead of declaring a winner. By doing this they would keep more fans. Yes it is true some may be disappointed but it is better to be disappointed instead of angry, which is what happens when most fans are sent home early.
The final thing Nascar could do is guarantee the fans the ticket s they purchase. If they are willing to spend the money to go to the Pit area than Nascar should honor their tickets and if they can't than at least refund their money or offer them a great gift. Again, it is better to be disappointed than angry.
Nascar loses more fans and money by failing to please there fans. They want to make the sport good and draw in the money but they are failing to do so where it counts. The drivers are important but it is the fans that put the food on the table for Nascar and its drivers. So Nascar, instead of thinking about what you can do for your drivers why not consider what you can do for your fans.
