Have an Offline Art Presence
Wait! What? Isn't the easiest way to sell artwork through the internet? Sure, the internet is a great way to get your artwork in front of most of the world, but not everyone loves the internet as much as you (and we) do. Submit your work to art fairs, craft wares and local art festivals. Teach an art class. Every sale you make or person you show your art to becomes a potential online customer as well.
Don't Discriminate
The art world has a reputation for being...well, snobby if you will. So many artists and gallery owners turn up their noses at the masses in many instances. If you want to sell art work, however, the masses are the people you want to attract...especially if you want to make a profit! Online auction sites might feel like huge and messy rummage sales (or a thrift store in a bad neighborhood) but you will be surprised at how many art aficionados troll these sites looking for great deals.
Practice Good Customer Service
Customer service is just as important for those that sell art work as it is for people who work in other areas of service. If you get a reputation for being hard to deal with you will find that it quickly becomes incredibly difficult to sell your own art. The better experience a buyer has when dealing with you, the more likely it is that the buyer will purchase from you again (and send friends your way)!
Selling art work is not as complicated as you might think it is. It takes time, effort and a plan. Keep at it and, before you know it, your sales will be through the roof.
