1. Get them involved
The first and most important part of decorating a kids room is to make sure the kid is involved. What you think is cute they may not. So do be sure to get their opinion before settling on decorations. Also, you may even want to pick out some crafts and let them make their own decorations.
It's very important they actually like the new room you will be decorating for them, or you'll end up spending more money changing it.
2. Make it easy to change
Your kids won't stay little forever, and their tastes will change. Make sure the wall decor and other items are easy to change later on. Don't paint walls dark colors that can't be easily changed, or buy cute wall paper that only appeals to a toddler. Trust me, you do not want to be stuck with the job of tearing off wallpaper. It is NOT fun.
Sometimes the most simple decor is the best. White walls are generally the best choice, since they can decorate their own walls with whatever they want. I know you want it cute, but just keep in mind they may not appreciate it when they get older.
3. Check for discounts
Costs for room decor can add up fast. Check around at consignment shops and discount stores. If you shop online, be sure to check specials or on sale items first. You'll be surprised how much you'll save just from this one tip. There's really no rush on getting a room finished, so wait until you see different items on sale before you add them to your decorating project.
Also, if you are in the process of changing a room's decor, be sure to attempt to sell your old items first (such as on eBay). This will give you more money to work with and won't clutter up your house as much.
Just these few tips will save you a lot of time and money if followed. Remember to have fun with it - you are creating a special area for your kids and you should feel good about it!
