3 Tips for Passing Your Driver's Exam the First Time

Impress the Evaluator!

Dan Reveal
Your motive for wanting to get your driver's license is an easy one to understand. What first time driver doesn't enjoy the new sense of freedom that a driver's license provides?

As stated in most DMV handbooks, however, a driver's license is not a right, it is a privilege. As such, you will not want to be overconfident. You will want to follow certain tips for passing your driver's exam the first time.

This article refers to the actual road test that first time drivers often have to take, even though they've completed a driver's education course in high school.

Generally speaking, you will want to practice the driving techniques that are outlined in the DMV handbook as much as possible. As in other things, practice makes perfect.

Read on to discover other tips for passing your driver's exam the first time.

Tip #1 Don't be Impatient

One of the basic tips for passing your driver's exam the first time is to avoid getting impatient. Driving a car can be a frustrating experience at times since you have to wait at stoplights and can get behind those who drive too slow.

The evaluator will notice this impatience if you honk your horn excessively or drive too fast.

Tip #2 Be Considerate of Others

Another way to impress the evaluator and ultimately pass your driver's exam the first time is to be considerate of other drivers.

This means that you should always use turn signals to help others understand your intention to change lanes, for example.

You should also avoid following other drivers too closely. Not only is following too closely a safety concern, it can also make other drivers nervous.

Tip #3 Be Cautious

A final tip for passing your driver's exam the first time lies in being cautious. Being cautious as a driver accounts for many things.

For example, in order to pass your driver's exam the first time, you will want to know and obey all traffic signs.

You will also want to anticipate the perhaps faulty driving habits of others. In general, you can't be too cautious as you try to pass your driver's exam the first time.

In sum, because a driver's license is a privilege and not a right, you will want to follow certain tips in order to pass your driver's exam the first time.

You can learn to drive well by getting lots of practice. You can also impress the person who is evaluating you by remaining calm in traffic, by being considerate of other drivers, and by being cautious.

I passed because I paused when a child ran behind the car to retrieve a ball. The evaluator said, "What are you waiting for?!" and I replied,
"Waiting for the child to move away."
He looked into the side mirror and said, "That's enough - return to the parking lot."
I thought I did something wrong and he said, "You'll be fine."
    cheers ;)
