3 Unique Alternatives to the Traditional Bridal Shower

Michelle Sharrow
Have you been appointed as a bridal shower hostess or planner? Are you looking for some unique and memorable ideas to surprise the bride to be? Why not consider having a Bridal Cruise, a Day at the Spa, or a Destination Shower instead of a traditional one?

Bridal Shower Cruise

Daily cruises aboard cruise ships are available in several cities around the United States including Washington, D.C. Philadelphia, P.A. and Charleston, S.C. Frequently reserved for retirement parties and birthday celebrations, these ships provide an excellent setting for a calm, serene and upscale shower. If you are in D.C. or P.A. the bride and her guests can sail aboard the Spirit of Washington or the Spirit of Philadelphia where they will enjoy a seated meal and listen to the sounds of a live band or disc jockey. If you are in the vicinity of Charleston, S.C. you can cruise aboard the Carolina Belle. The Carolina Belle also has an event planner that will help you make the event even more memorable. One of the best reasons for throwing a bridal shower aboard a cruise ship is that you'll eliminate all of the preparatory work that tends to overwhelm the hostess.

Day Spa Bridal Shower

Many day spas around the country will also allow you to reserve their spas for a bridal shower celebration. To prepare for the event you'll need to select a spa and provide all of the guests with a price list for available services. For large groups, most spas require a partial deposit for all services. So you'll need to set a deadline for the deposits, collect the monies and that's it. Most spas also offer light snacks and drinks. To kick the shower up a notch, you can bring in additional food or a cake. If you decide to bring in outside food items, please be sure to check with the spa.

Destination Bridal Shower

Do you own a time-share or know someone who does? Time-share owners often receive special offers to bring referrals for a three-day weekend. All hotel expenses are covered so long as you agree to listen to a timeshare presentation. Timeshares within a few hours of the bride's home provide an excellent location for a bridal shower. Since the average wedding is planned over the course of a year, you can start planning the bridal shower as soon as the wedding date is known. This will give you enough time to handle the logistics of an out of town event. This idea is perfect for an intimate group of guests.

For those with money to spend and guests that can commit to being away from home for seven days, you could host a bridal shower extravaganza over the course of your annual vacation week.

Traditional bridal showers with tea sandwiches and garden themes are becoming a thing of the past. If you have been designated as the hostess for an upcoming bridal shower, why not surprise the bride with a unique and unexpected shower. Cruises, day spas, and destination showers are all wonderful options. Select one of these nontraditional venues and create a memory that will last a lifetime.
