3 Uses for Empty Masking Tape Rolls

Ann Siper
I love using empty masking tape rolls to create new and fun projects around the home. The super sturdy rings of cardboard used to hold masking tape in a roll make awesome crafts, home décor projects, and holiday crafts!

Masking Tape Roll Craft #1: Lamp Base

If you have a thin lamp base, like a rod or pipe lamp base you can beef this up and give it a new contemporary look using masking tape rolls. Slip on a bunch of masking tape rolls to see how many you need to reach the correct height to cover the exiting lamp base.

Now, take all the rolls. Run a bead of glue on the side of the ring on each one. Stack them to make a column. You can stack them neatly or zig zag them a little for depth.

Once the glue fries spray paint these or paint with an oil based paint. Let the paint dry. Now, slip the column of masking tape rolls back month the lamp base! You can add anew lampshade as well that is larger than the last!

Masking Tape Roll Craft #2: Magnetic Frame

Take one empty masking tape roll and paint it out in any color you want. Trace the dried masking tape roll on a piece of old cardboard.

Trace the card board onto a photo and cut It out. Glue the photon onto the front of the cardboard. Run a bead of glue around the edge of the photo and press the masking tape roll on it.

Now, on the back, once everything is dry you want to glue on a magnetic strip from the craft store. You may need two depending on how strong your magnets are!

These look great on a fridge, magnetic office board, or even a backsplash that is magnetic in the kitchen!

Masking Tape Roll Craft #3: Vase

Finally, if you have an old vase, you know the cheap plain clear glass kind that come from the florist, you can transform this into a cool contemporary vase that can really coordinate well with the lamp from above.

Simply paint out the masking tape rolls as before. For Christmas try painting every other one white and the rest red. They can be glued together like a candy cane!

Simply stack the rolls up in a neat column where the edges a line. Glue them into place as before.

Slip the clear glass vase inside and fill with your favorite flowers! This is a fun idea to make in sets of threes. Line them up in a window sill to create a whole look.

Tip: Try using old pickle jars inside and creating shorter vases!

I love these ideas. If you use many of these in your own home, I wish there was a way you could show us some photos of rooms and some of the ideas. But I'm just grateful for these!
