Where can you find a delicious smoothie that will help prevent colds and flu? Or one that will boost energy? How about a beautiful red vegetable smoothie that melts belly fat? You can find all three of these vegetable smoothies in your own kitchen, and by indulging in one or more each day, you can supercharge your health.
Prevent Colds and Flu with Pumpkin Smoothie
A healthy smoothie made with a perfect fall vegetable, pumpkin, that will help prevent fall and winter's maladies, colds and flu. Pumpkin is rich in vitamin A (just two tablespoons packs almost a full days requirement), and vitamin A fortifies mucous membranes in the nose and throat to block cold and flu viruses before they can settle into your system. Vitamin A also boosts the production of T-cells, giving the immune system a boost and reducing the number of sick days a person endures during the winter months.
To make a delicious pumpkin smoothie, blend one-fourth cup of canned pumpkin puree, one-fourth cup of plain low-fat yogurt, one frozen banana (cut into chunks) two tablespoons of ground flaxseed, one teaspoon of agave nectar, one-fourth teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice and one-fourth teaspoon of vanilla extract. Puree until smooth and creamy.
Avocado Smoothie Boosts Energy
Avocados are a great source of magnesium and potassium a potent nutrient combo that has been proven to boost energy. While the magnesium is busy flushing out fatigue-causing sodium from body cells, the potassium is converting blood sugar into energy.
To supercharge your health with an avocado smoothie, scoop out the flesh of one ripe avocado and place in blender. Add one-half cup of light soy milk or low fat milk and two tablespoons of honey. Blend until smooth and creamy, then add another one and half cups of soy milk and blend until smooth.
Beautiful Red Vegetable Smoothie Melts Belly Fat
Which red vegetable could possibly melt belly fat when blended into a smoothie? Beets.
Beets are naturally sweet and contain a fiber which stimulates the body's production of glutathione-S-transferase, an enzyme that speeds up the rate at which the liver removes fat-trapping toxins. Beets also suppress the stress hormone, Cortisol, with their phytonutrient, betaine. Cortisol is the catalyst behind belly fat.
Melt belly fat by blending two cups of cooked beets (canned is fine), one cup low fat vanilla yogurt and four ice cubes. When beet mixture is smooth, add two tablespoons of honey, one tablespoon of orange juice and a pinch of orange zest. Blend until all ingredient are incorporated.
