Vintage t shirts are the perfect way to decorate a retro family room. You can use your favorite vintage t shirts or new retro looking t shirts to create some fun home décor, retro art work, and even modern art for your home.

Here are 3 ways to decorate your family room with retro t shirts:

Vintage T Shirt Décor #1: Café Curtains

Large sized t shirts also make great café style curtains for a kitchen or bathroom. The first thing you want to do is cut them in held, right up the two side seams. Try to cut out the largest panel you can. If the whole t shirt is plain then you will get 2 panels out of each t shirt.

Now, fold all edges over and sew them to create nice edges. Fold the top over and sew to create a rod pocket.

You can also stencil cherries, strawberries, or any other retro inspired design on the t shirts. Hang on a tension rod on the bottom half of the window and you have some free café curtains.

Vintage T Shirt Décor #2: Rag Rug

T shirts make an awesome rag rug if you have a little time and patience. You will first want to cut your extra t shirts out into strips of fabric that are 2 inches wide and about 5 inches long. Next, you want to buy a rug screen, plastic grid, or any grid form that you can tie the strips of fabric t shirt onto.

Check out your local craft store for rug forms meant to tie into rag rugs. Next, turn on the TV and settle down to start tying. You can try to use all one color or mix and match for a more whimsical look.

Vintage T Shirt Décor #3: Wall Art

Buying canvases is rather expensive, so why not stretch out the plain side of a t shirt out on a canvas stretchers and use that to create some fun art. You can buy simple canvas stretchers at the craft store for about 50 cents a piece. You will need four to make a frame.

You can also use an empty frame that you take the glass off of. Use a staple gun to attach the t shirt. Next, start painting. You can splatter on paint like Jackson Pollock; stencil a dressing, or simply free hand a fun pattern.

Get creative here and you can have a ton of art for only a few dollars.
