3 Ways to Decorate with Vintage Gym Baskets in the Home Office

Retro locker baskets and vintage gym baskets make the perfect storage for a home office with a hip look. You can use these vintage wire baskets that were once used in gymnasiums to keep yourself organized, get that clutter off the floor, and decorate your personal space.

Here are 3 ideas to decorate with retro gym baskets in the home office:

Retro Gym Basket Décor #1: Desk Drawers

A cool look is to simply take 2 of those prefab short book cases, the kind that is about desk height. Place one on the left and one on the right about 3 feet away. Top these off with a sheet of beveled glass or MDF. You can paint all of these out to match.

Now, to make this look really custom you can take rows of vintage gym locker baskets and use them to fill the shelves. They look great if you place three in each shelf.

Now, you can see into them, so be sure to lien them if you have small items for the office you are stroking. You can also paint them out in bright colors for a pop.

Retro Gym Basket Décor #2: Light Covers

So, if you have an awesome ceiling light in your office, you can easily replace it with a vintage gym basket from an old locker. Simply leave the old light in place, since most gym baskets will slide over is.

Now, line the basket with a sheet of vellum, hand made rice paper, or any opaque whit paper. Now, place over the existing light fixture. Use electrical wire brackets that slide over the top edges of the basket and screw into the ceiling.

This is quick and easy and only makes a few small holes.

You can also use this same idea, but upside down to create lampshades from your retro gym baskets.

Retro Gym Basket Décor #3: Wall Storage

Finally, for some quick and easy storage in the office try creating a grid of wall storage using yoru vintage gym locker baskets. You can use screws and washers to screw them into the wall.

I like to simple place the basket on the wall. Place one large washer over an opening in the wire basket. Now, use a screw to start drilling this into the wall. Screw this on tight in the four corners with four different screws.

You can place files, accent objects, and even small office supplies in them. I would save heavier books for your retro office for the shelves though.
