3 Ways to Enhance Your Intuition

Tameko Barnette
According to the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, intuition can be defined as a quick and keen insight. This can be true for many people who know how to tap into their intuition. For some people, it isn't as simple or as quick to not only tap into one's intuition, but trust it.

Over the past four years, I've obtained certification as a Holistic Health Practitioner, certification as a Reiki Master Teacher, and passion as an avid yoga practitioner. With these fields of study under my belt, I've learned how to tap into my intuition through very simple and effective ways. One of the key elements of tapping into one's own intuition is trust.

I'm sure many of you can relate to knowing who will be on the phone before you pick up the receiver or having a feeling about not going somewhere and then finding out there was a crime committed at the place you decided not to go to at the last minute - these are all examples of listening to one's own intuition and trusting it.

For those of you who are trying to tap into your intuition for spiritual healing purposes, I'd like to offer a few simple tips to help you along the way.

Tip #1: Movement. As I've mentioned earlier, I'm an avid practitioner of yoga and I also practice aerobic exercise on a regular basis as well. Any type of exercise is excellent for keeping you grounded, centered, and open to divine guidance from within. Yoga, aerobic dancing, aerobic exercise, weight training, walking, jogging, and swimming are excellent forms of exercise to help you. In addition to the exercise helping your intuition, the resting period afterwards is helpful as well. Keep in mind, this isn't information I've received from an article, a magazine, or a book, this is based on my personal experience only. And keep in mind, these are only suggestions, not mandatory activities that you have to do in order to have quick and keen insight. Insight is something that you already have within you. I believe the exercise and other two tips help to bring that natural quality out to the forefront even more.

Tip #2: Meditation. This is a good follow-up to the exercise, no matter what type of exercise you do. Every day for at least five to ten minutes just sit still in silence - no reading, no music, no television, no cell phones, no home phones, no visitors, just peace and quiet for five to ten minutes. You can do this in the morning before going to work or in the evening before going to bed. If you do this before bed, please sit in a chair or sit straight up on a pillow or a cushion - please do not sit down. You do not want to fall asleep. While sitting in silence, pay attention to the thoughts, ideas, and feelings that come up for you. Ask yourself a question silently, and listen closely for the answer. Keep a journal close by to jot down those thoughts and ideas, so you can refer to them later on.

Tip #3: Memory. Think back to times when you have paid attention to the inner voice within you. What did you back then? How easy or difficult was it for you to pay attention? Did you do something special to help it along? Jot these memories down in your journal as a reference. Along the way in our lives, we've used our intuition. We've listened to that still voice inside of ourselves that told us to go 'left' when we were about to turn 'right' and was thankful later on for having listened to those instructions. Remember those times you've done this and recapture those moments by following what you did to listen. Keep a journal of all current and future intuitive moments, no matter how small or big you feel they are - jot them down and refer to them as often as you feel you need to.

During this day and age, I feel it is important for us to tap into our inner power - our inner voice and our inner strength to help us maintain and manifest in this world. Physical resources, while they are abundant, have proven to be temporary unless we use our inner power to continue flow of abundance through the law of attraction to keep us afloat. Tapping into our intuitions is another way to increase the laws of attraction in our favor.
