1. Cut yourself some slack. If you are like me, you probably have a never ending to-do list which you are determined to finish but it never gets done. As soon as you complete one task, another has found its way onto the list. What you need to do is establish what is absolutely necessary, and cut the rest out. It won't make you a failure. The perfectionist never finishes all their work! So, don't try to be perfect. If there are some tasks which you absolutely must do, but don't have the time for, then you can always delegate it to someone else. For example, if you don't have time to Vacuum the house as often as you'd like, why not hire a cleaner to do it for you? You would be surprised at how little this will cost you. Just phone around and get some quotes. For most people, there is no need to hire a whole cleaning team, you just need a single person for one day and already you will feel the weight lifting off your shoulders. After all, we are not all like Monica off of Friends!
2. Focus on the positive. A bad habit that we all fall into now and again is to focus on the negative and play the victim. Instead of always pointing out what is wrong in your life, try shifting your attention to all the things which are going well for you. One thing I like to do at the end of a day is think of 10 things which went well today. After doing so, I will then read them over to myself to remind me of how fortunate I am. You will then begin to notice more positive things happening to you every day when you start to focus on the positive.
3. Find out the full story. Assuming that everyone else has it easier, or better than you is one sure way to feel down and lacking in self-worth. The reality is that no one is perfect! For example, your best friend my seem to have it all on the surface, but underneath all that you can guarantee that all is not as it seems. Every one has their problems and insecurities which they will not even share with their closest friends.
I hope you enjoyed reading these 3 short ways to being happier in your life. As you can see, much of the work is in shifting your view on how you look at your life and those around you. The truth is, we all will experience low points in life, but it is how you react to them and how fast you get back up that matters the most. Happiness is a series of happy moments.
