3 Ways to Minimize Morning Sickness and Heartburn During Pregnancy Without Medication

Antoinette McGowan
Morning sickness and heartburn seem to two of the most troublesome parts of pregnancy. The thing with morning sickness though is that it can strike at anytime day or night. For those who get hit with a double whammy pregnancy can become a nightmare instead of a joyous experience. During my last pregnancy I suffered morning sickness at night but heartburn all during the day. No sooner would the heartburn end and the morning sickness would kick right in. While morning sickness and heartburn can are normal during pregnancy, no one has to just simply suffer through it. There are some things that a person can do that will help to minimize the discomfort of morning sickness and heartburn without using medication.

Hot Tea and Crackers:

Nibbling on saltine crackers and sipping on a cup of hot tea can help to minimize morning sickness. Remember to eat the crackers and sip the hot tea very slowly because putting too much into your body to quickly can have the opposite effect. This can be done day or night depending on when your morning sickness seems to kick in.

Avoid sodas:

Sodas can cause heartburn and aggravate morning sickness. The best thing to do is avoid sodas all together. This can be hard for some to actually accomplish. I cut down to just drinking one soda in the morning after I found out that I had gestational diabetes. I just could not seem to function in the mornings if I did not have my morning Mountain Dew. With being down to just that one soda in the morning I did manage to reduce my heartburn some what during all my pregnancies.

Minimize the spices:

For some a simple reduction of spices in foods can help to minimize heartburn and morning sickness. Keep an eye on what you are eating and then when heartburn or morning sickness may hit after eating. This should help you to narrow down what spices are your triggers.

These are by far not the only things that can be down to alleviate morning sickness and heartburn. They are though the three main ones that worked best for me without the use of any type of medication. Remember that no two pregnancies are the same and what works during one pregnancy may not work during the next pregnancy.
