First suggestion is to get a pet, preferably a dog. Your pet will require you to at least get up out of the bed every morning because it will be totally depending on you to survive. And your pet will always be home waiting for your arrival and wanting to see you no matter what you look like or how you may be feeling. A pet will need you and cause you to function when you really could care less to get out of your bed.
As silly as it may seem to say, another important factor is to take your prescribed medicine or if you do not have any, then make an appointment with your doctor and get something that could possibly make the world of a difference in your life. Your brain is an organ like the rest of the organs in a human body and at times your brain may require medicines as the other organs due such as blood pressure medicine for your heart or fluid pills for your kidneys. Just because it is your brain, that does not mean it may not malfunction like the rest of your organs. Can you imagine if people did not take the medicines that their doctors prescribed for all the other malfunctions in the body besides the brain?
Lastly, try to surround yourself with positive people and things that make you happy. Also put out the things that you like looking at and the ones that bring you joy. It may be as simple as one of your favorite greeting cards or a piece of your grandmother's china. No matter how tacky or silly you think it may look or seem, if it puts a smile on your face then display it. Do not leave your cherished memories packed up in boxes and storage containers to just go unseen and collect dust. Do not be afraid to use your good dishes or linens for only special or important occasions. What is the point? Why not enjoy them now? Because lets be honest, you sure can not take them with you when you go!
Anyway, battling depression is no fun and honestly it sucks, but hopefully the three ideas described will help you to overcome letting that black cloud gain anymore coverage over you and your life.
