30 Days 30 Articles on Associated Content

What I Learned in One Month Freelance Writing on Associated Content

Marie M. Daniels
I set a one-month goal for myself to write an article a day and get it published on Associated Content. As part of my monthly goal I wanted to start submitting all my work for up-front payments to see if I could get some more money. I also wanted to raise my clout number (the little planet with a number on my profile page) to a number 6 by the end of the month.

I had started submitting freelance writing articles to Associated Content for about six months before my little challenge. Earlier I had set a goal of 4 articles a month or 1 article a week. So stepping it up to 7 articles in a week was quite a jump for me. I know some writers come up with 7 great articles in a day, but I don't have much time for my writing at this point in my life. I wanted to work on my writing part-time when my other priorities were not conflicting. I was basically trying to see if I could make part-time money working at home as a freelance writer during this challenge.

Well I was able to stick to my goal of 30 articles published in 30 days on AC mostly. I did get a little bit of writers block, and some days I didn't feel like writing or I needed to get other things accomplished. So some days I had to submit 2 articles to reach my goal. There were many times during the month that I didn't think I would be able to stick to my goals or to do list. I also wasn't so sure that I could reach clout 6, but I did; I was on clout 4 when I started. I did end up completing what I started out to do and I learned many things during that 30 days.

Here is what I learned from writing an article a day on Associated Content:

Organization: You need to be organized and have self-discipline to write part time or full time. I could spend hours reading others content on AC and checking my email. I spent quite a bit of time checking my account to see if they offered me any money for an article I just submitted for an up-front payment. I also spent time checking to see how many page views I had gotten. Basically some days I wasted hours checking on things and avoided writing. If I had just written something I would have been much more productive.

So I had to set another goal for myself or some more restrictions. I would not enable myself to check on anything until I had written at least my one article for the day. Then after that I could go around reading articles and checking on things such as email and page views. This was kind of a self-motivation that I needed to get my writing done.

Earnings and page views: While I was poking around on the forums I came across a thread about earnings, and how much one could make in a month just from page views, one top earner in theory can make $1,000 a month from "royalties" or page views. Now, that number is just speculation, but I like the numbers, and consider it a real possibility. I may never reach that many page views at AC, but to know that it is possible is enticing. I am certainly going to keep on trying. If you are new to Associated Content I hope that you can learn from this. I learned to keep submitting my freelance writing articles and to push myself to publish more often.

Very interesting, Marie! I learned, too, you have to keep writing steadily. I could never write 7-10 articles a day! That is not writing...that is torture! :) Well done article and congrats on Clout 6!
