30 Days of Night Review

A Horrible Vampire Movie

Rose Oscura
A new movie to recently come to DVD is 30 Days of Night. 30 Days of Night is a movie that takes place in Barlow, Alaska during the thirty days that Barlow falls under because of the state's close proximity to the North Pole. During this time, vampires roam the city because of the darkness of the area.

The two main characters in this movie are the Sheriff named Eben and the girl who used to be his girlfriend: Stella. There are few other characters besides these two because most people leave Barlow before the darkness can set in. Even Stella tried to the leave the city before the thirty days of night. However, because of car problems, she was too late for the airplane and missed her last chance to leave Barlow before the darkness came.

Meanwhile, Eben is kept busy by the recent phonemenae that is happening around Barlow. Cell phones are disappearing, dogs are being killed, and the only helicopter in town has been destroyed. After a long day's work, he stops at the bar for a drink, only to run into a man who's harassing Stella. After asking the man to stop with no results, Eben takes the man into the police station to put him into jail.

From that point, the story continues to develop as murders are happening all throughout the town. The man that Eben put into jail is screaming about how "they will be back to get him". The foreshadowing in this movie would be extremely efficient if the commercials wouldn't have shown what the monsters were in the first place. However, since the viewer knows that the monsters are vampires, all of the "mysterious" pieces that the producers tried to use in the film become useless.

The movie continues from that point. However, I'll leave that to the viewer's interest to rent or buy the movie to finish watching the movie.

In my opinion, this movie was horribly made. I have yet to find a plot hidden within the twists of the movie, and a majority of the movie just made you stare open-mouthed at the screen multiple times. Unlike other movies, this one seemed like a movie that was made on a low budget without much thought put into the plot.

However, if you're into a bloodfest and a poorly developed romantic storyline, this would be a good movie to watch. Since it has an "R" rating, however, you may want to wait until you turn seventeen to watch it, however.
