30 Hypothetical Epithets for Today’s Celebrities

Linda Ann Nickerson

"What do you want on your tombstone?" a popular pizza maker asks in television ads. Tombstone epithets may be touching, tear-jerking or even tickling to observers.

For famous folks, engraved cemetery markers often bear pithy phrases or statements they made popular onscreen, in songs, onstage or even in print.

Consider these examples of celebrity tombstone epithets:

"That's all, folks!" (Mel Blanc)

"Good night, sweet prince, and a flight of angels sing thee to thy rest." (Douglas Fairbanks, Sr.)

"Everybody loves somebody sometime." (Dean Martin)

"The best is yet to come." (Frank Sinatra)

In fact, many celebrities pick their own epithets long before they pass away, with perhaps as much derring-do as they may select vanity license plates for their vehicles.

What possible epithets might fit some of today's most popular celebrities?

Celebrities often offer quotable quips and memorable mentions that may provide apt phrasings for postmortem remembrances.

With Halloween approaching again, it somehow seems appropriate to ponder possible imprints for funereal markers.

Take a look at these ironic, sarcastic or simply poignant possibilities for eventual epitaphs (arranged alphabetically by celebrity). Some are actual quotes, and others are song or movie lines, while others are simply adapted phrasings.

"To infinity and beyond!" (Tim Allen)

"I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and French fried potatoes." (Jimmy Buffett)

"Well alrighty, then." (Jim Carrey)

"Snap out of it!" (Cher)

"Beyond the door, there's peace I'm sure, and I know there'll be no more tears in Heaven." (Eric Clapton)

"Shaken, not stirred." (Sean Connery)

"Hey, Dad! You wanna have a catch?" (Kevin Costner)

"You lookin' at me?" (Robert DeNiro)

"Why's the rum gone?" (Johnny Depp)

"It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage." (Harrison Ford)

"Life is a crazy ride, and nothing is guaranteed." (Eminem)

"They may take our lives, but they will never take our freedom." (Mel Gibson)

"Houston, we have a problem." (Tom Hanks)

"Life is too short to blend in." (Paris Hilton)

"I'm walking here! I'm walking here!" (Dustin Hoffman)

"La-dee-da, la-dee-da." (Diane Keaton)

"You can't take it with you." (Lindsay Lohan)

"Schwing!" (Mike Myers)

"I see dead people." (Haley Joel Osment)

"I can see Russia from here." (Sarah Palin)

"And I'm free - free fallin'." (Tom Petty)

"Is that your final answer?" (Regis Philbin)

"The tribe has spoken." (Jeff Probst)

"I want the fairy tale." (Julia Roberts)

"Hasta la vista, baby." (Arnold Schwarzenegger)

"Beam me up, Scotty." (William Shatner)

"Maybe winning isn't everything." (Charlie Sheen)

"Life is not the amount of breaths you take. It's the moments that take your breath away." (Will Smith)

"It's OK. I wouldn't remember me, either." (Kevin Spacey)

"Nanu-nanu." (Robin Williams)

"You had me at 'Hello.'" (Renee Zellweger)

Hopefully, most of these celebrities will be around for a long, long time. Still, it pays to be prepared, even with epithets, and entertainers seem never to stop seeking to entertain.
