31-year-old Man Dies After Blow to the Head with an Axe

COLUMBIA, TN - A 31-year-old man died early this morning after receiving a blow to the head with an axe. Timothy Michael Fuller, Columbia, died after being life-flighted to Vanderbilt Medical Center following a Wednesday night altercation with another man at Fuller's Mother-in-law's house.

According to a press release issued by Lieutenant Michelle Jones of the Columbia Police Department, the victim's wife, April Fuller ran into a convenience store less than a block from where the incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. and asked the cashier to contact police because her husband needed medical attention. He had been hit in the head with an axe, she told them.

When police arrived at the residence they found Fuller lying on the floor with a large pool of blood around his head and immediately began administering first aid. Officers noted a laceration on the unresponsive victim's head.

The press release says a resident of the home, Gwenda Westmoreland, April Fuller's mother told police that Randy Clayton Norman, 51, of the same residence, had hit her son-in-law with an axe during a domestic argument between Westmoreland and her daughter. Norman was still at the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

He was initially charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, but Detective Jones expects the charges to be amended to First Degree Murder since the victim died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt. Norman is currently being held without bond at the Maury County Detention Facility

He regrets it today. He's claiming self defense. I guess the family has quite a history of getting drunk and assaulting one another. Thanks for your comment.

One wonders if he regreats it now that he is sitting there, or did he feel the man deserved it? Well written article, Ron :)
