Family Man Versus Outlaw
Set in late nineteenth century Arizona, 3:10 to Yuma is the story of Dan Evans, a rancher (Christian Bale) taking a well-known outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) to his trial in Yuma while being chased by the outlaw's former gang. His goal is to take him to get on the 3:10 pm train to Yuma. Evans takes on the job because his ranch struggling. To do his job, he must evade Wade's old gang in hot pursuit. In the trailer, it shows he must also deal with his tag-along son who is determined to make the journey with him.
Pyschological Cowyboy Drama
While the plot of 3:10 to Yuma offers standard Western fare- wide open spaces and gunfights, the classic film's greatness came from it being a study of masculinity. As the men talk to each other and their lives become intertwined, the main characters are forced to examine their own motives and character. The movie is not a battle of guns, but a battle of human wills. The classic 3:10 to Yuma was known as a thinking man's cowboy movie with its penetrating look into the pysche's of the characters.
The remake of 3:10 to Yuma will be directed by James Mangold who wrote and directed the Johnny Cash bio-drama, Walk the Line. Mangold shot the film in Northern New Mexico in the land surrounding Santa Fe and Abiquiu. Mangold used New Mexico towns and ranches to represent southern Arizona and the town of Bisbee.
The movie 3:10 to Yuma will be released in early September 2007. The early release date is meant to give 3:10 to Yuma a head start on the fall blockbuster season.
3:10 to Yuma will face competition in the Fall of 2007 from the upcoming Western films The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and No Country for Old Men.
3:10 to Yuma Looks Promising with Noted Actors Bale and Crowe
Veteran actors Christian Bale and Rusell Crowe take on the main characters in 3:10 to Yuma. Each actor has made recent movies that explore the inner world of adventurous men as they deal with adversity and fate closing in on their choices. The film trailer suggests that audiences will not be disappointed by the remake of the classic western 3:10 to Yuma.
