311 Day 2010 is set for Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay and fans from around the world are converging on the city for a massive weeklong celebration of music, good times and good friends.

To the uninitiated, the band 311 has a tradition of holding a special March 11th (that's 3-11, get it?) concert. It's been a tradition since 2000, and has morphed into the crazy biennial extravaganza that it is today over the years. It has become an enormous celebration and is a hugely anticipated event for fans. For my personally, after being a 311 fan for what's going on 15 years, I'm finally heading to my first 311 Day concert this year.

311 Day 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada

The 311 Day concert is traditionally held in New Orleans, so why is it in Las Vegas this year? It's actually due to some unfortunate timing with conferences being held in New Orleans and the city literally not being able to ensure enough hotel rooms would be available for the tens of thousands of 311-heads that would be sure to flock into town.

The concert will be held at the Mandalay Bay events center in Las Vegas, and it will be a packed house. Tickets sold out within hours of them opening to the public, and fans have been counting down the days since the official announcement of the show back in November.

311 Day 2010 Schedule of Events and Festivities

Of course the 2010 311 Day concert itself is held on March 11th, which is a Thursday this year. The concert starts at 7 pm, and it will be held at the Mandalay Bay events center. But there's much more than just the concert, 311 Day is really a weeklong affair.

The night before the concert, March 10th, there is a special 311 Day pre-party. Called the fan party, 311 fans can enjoy a celebration the night before the concert at Jet, a club at the Mirage.

Then the day after the concert, there is a 311 Beach Party. On Friday March 12th, the Wailers will be playing at the Mandalay Beach wave pool and outdoor beach area, offering a great bounce back concert and chance for continued, positive music vibes. Tickets for both of these events have also been sold out, so don't plan on just walking up and expecting to get in!

Also throughout the week and weekend there are many deals and specials around Las Vegas for fans to take advantage of. For a full listing, you can view the official 311 day page.

Plus, there's good news for 311 fans not attending the concert in Vegas, you can watch a webcast of the show! For $12 you can stream the entire six hour long, nonstop 311 fest from their website. You can view more information about the 311 Day webcast here.

What Makes the 311 Day Concert so Special?

311 Day is not your average concert. If you go to a concert and the main band performs for two hours you probably leave feeling that you got more than your money's worth. Well, for 311 Day the band generally performs for between five and six hours. They play in the range of 50-65 songs during this time, putting on a near unfathomable display of musical endurance and energy.

It's also noteworthy because 311 has cultivated an extremely loyal, passionate and global fan base over the years. They have reached noteworthy status on album charts and radio playlists a few times, but the hardcore fans are always tuned in, attending the raucous shows and picking up the newest music. 311 Day is really all about the fans, and it's something that any 311 fan has to experience at least once.

For those attending 311 Day 2010 in Las Vegas, I'll be sure to see you there. For everybody else, check out the webcast and make plans for the next blowout. 311 fans around the world unite!
