An amazing discovery has been made! A 340-year-old Bible was found in a Wisconsin church last week! A sixth grade teacher made the discovery at St. Paul Lutheran Church where she works. The Bible was found inside an old safe. Debra Court originally found the Bible two years ago and thought it was just an old book.

Timothy Shoup, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, sent images of it to Concordia Seminary Library in St. Louis where researchers authenticated the Bible. Lyle Buettner of Concordia Seminary Library said that there are only about 40 documented copies of the Bible. The text in the Bible is hand illustrated. Buettner told WLUK-TV: "Each time I see an illustration like this, I just think of how beautiful it looks and how much of a labor of love it must have been for the person who actually drew it."

Reverend Shoup told the Associated Press that the nearly 150-year-old church does not know how it came to be in possession of the Bible. "We don't know how it got into the safe. We've been asking some of our elderly folks and people in the nursing home and nobody seems to remember."

The bible was printed in 1670 in Germany and has 1,500 pages. It is in excellent condition.
