3D Movies - Can't We Just Have Plan Old Movies Back?

Pat Bartels
My two and a half year Granddaughter will sit for a good hour watching Kipper and Thomas the Train. So I thought she was ready to go see a children's movie. It would be a lot of fun to take her to her first real movie in a movie theater.

So we did a search on movie.com to see what was available in our local theater. We did not want to travel too far because we wanted to have dinner after wards. The only thing available was Tangled in 3D. In case you don't know this movie is Disney's Rapunzel reimaged into 3D. I was apprehensive when I saw that it was in the 3D format.

We got to the theater, and the previews were already running. My granddaughter did not know what to think of the fact that the theater was dim, and the noise was loud. Her first reaction was to cry. Luckily we went on a Monday evening so there was only one other family in the theater. Now I know why they have to charge so much to go see a movie these days. She calmed down rather quickly, but refused to wear the glasses and did not want anyone else to wear them either. We wore them when she was not looking.

If you have ever been to a 3D movie you know that the film quality without the glasses is very poor. I admit that I haven't gone to many 3D movies because I don't like wearing the glasses. I have to wear them over my regular glasses. Can't figure out why anyone would want to wear glasses if they don't have to.

It's kind of cool to see something go floating past your face every now and then, but please let's be done with this 3D craze. I know that one of the newest technologies for TV is 3D television, but that's going too far. Don't even mess with my television. I don't intend on having to keep track of 3D glasses. It's hard enough keeping track of all the remotes. I sometimes find it difficult to keep track of my regular glasses, and I certainly don't want to pay extra for 3D cable stations. Digital is just fine. The cable company already gets enough of my money.

The movie was fine. My granddaughter managed to sit through the entire movie occasionally wearing her 3D glasses. She was not impressed. She did like the music, and thought it was a sing along. All in all we had a good time. Next time we will pick a regular movie.

I happen to like the 3-D experience, though I wish the producers of that type of viewing would come up with a screen to place over the movie screen, rather than forcing viewers to pay $3 for glasses.

I still like the old black and white films. The 3D films take some getting used to that's for sure

I like the old-fashioned movies better myself.

    I agree...3 D is stressful.

Gee, I almost lost my lunch the one time I saw an IMAX film. I have unpleasant (headache, nausea) memories of older 3-D, and I just don't think it is worth the trouble... or the price.

I saw that "How to Train Your Dragon" in 3D and I thought it was pretty cool. I never took my glasses off so I don't know what the movie looked like without them. But you kinda get vertigo, which I did, and the glasses had to go over my regular glasses, so they pushed my own glasses into my face and behind my ears, so I walked out with a headache. If I was wearing contacts, it would have been way cooler. 3D movies are neat if you've never seen one, and the kids sure like them, but I wouldn't want to watch every movie in 3D

I have not seen 3-D since I was a kid. I did not like it then, so not interested now!

fully agree, Pat, I'm for sans 3D!

I'm not a fan of 3D either, especially since most of it is really bad 3D.
