4 Best Free iPhone News Applications

Phil Dotree
What's the use in having an awesome piece of tech equipment if you're out of the news loop?

Make sure that you know what's going on in your world. Using your iPhone, you can keep your fingers on the pulse of all the latest breaking events and top news stories. Here are four fantastic news applications that you can download from the iTunes application store for free.

1. AP Mobile News Network -
Get your news from the Associated Press with this application, which allows you customize a news flow to meet your interests and watch and read breaking stories as they happen. You can view videos and pictures from the Associated Press, as well, and the user interface is simple and intuitive. Very useful for its search feature, in particular; search a huge AP database for related stories, keywords, or people, and instantly see the news that you need.

2. NPR Mobile -
For radio news fans, this application offers everything you'd ever need from one of the best news stations on the radio, NPR. You can download podcasts of nearly any NPR show, and search by program name or personality, reading recaps and up to date news. You can view pictures, too, giving you something that NPR's radio show doesn't offer, or search for a particular segment rather than an entire show. NPR fans will find a lot to like in this application.

3. Pocket Express -
This application will organize all of your news into categories, allowing you to check everything from sports to world news to economics to your horoscope with the press of a finger. You can even look up local movie times, weather, and the performance of your favorite sports team. There's a high likelihood that after installing Pocket Express, you won't use any other application for your news, no matter what you're interested in. The developer behind Pocket Express even offers 24/7 assistance via phone, which, of course, you can dial directly from the program on your iPhone. A very cool application.

4. Fox News UReport -
Have you ever wished you were a reporter? You can take pictures directly from your iPhone and send them to Fox News with this application, which could end up costing hundreds of highly-paid professional news photographers their jobs. But hey, your pictures can appear online and on the air, and you can always send tons of random photos to Fox, helping to slow down their news process as they sort through hundreds of pictures of your back hair. That's awesome, any way that you look at it.

What did I miss? If you know of any better iPhone news applications that are free, post in our comments section below.
