4 Bird Feeder Kids Crafts

Some great Springtime crafts for the kids to do when Spring is getting near. We all know in order to get through Spring, we have a lot of rain to go through. Give them a craft project to do on the next rainy day. Birds of all kinds come home during Spring. Help the birds out this year by feeding them. Have your kids make Bird feeders for projects.

Bird Heart

Supplies:
Peanut butter (not crunchy)
Wild Birdseed
Wooden Heart that is flat on both sides
Thin Rope
Deep Bowl
Drill

Drill Two holes on each side of the heart or one hole in the middle. Two on each side would hold up better. Make sure they are the same height so when you hang it its not crooked.

Take your rope and string it through the holes and double knot it. Make it long enough so it can hang from something.

Pour a good amount of bird seed in the deep bowel. Spread peanut butter all over both sides of the heart. Make sure the whole heart is covered. Take the heart and sip it in the bowl. Cover all the peanut butter up with seed.

Hang out side on a tree and watch all the different birds that come along to eat.

Bagel Bird treat

Supplies:
Bagel (stale is fine)
String
Bird seed
peanut butter
oatmeal
deep bowl

This is a great way to use up any bagels that are stale or just about stale. They wont last long enough outside to get moldy, so don't worry about harming your bird friends.

Cut bagel in half. Place string through one half and tie so you will be able to hang it.

Mix oatmeal and seed in the large bowl. Spread peanut butter on both sides of the bagel. place the bagel into the bowl and coat with the seed and oatmeal. Repeat this process for the other half of bagel.

Hang outside and watch for your birds. Don't be surprised if you see a few squirrels eating away at the awesome treat.

Pine cone Bird feeder

Supplies:
String
Pine cone
peanut butter
2 paper plates
bird seed

Take a large piece of string and tie it tightly around the pine cone and double knot it. Spread peanut butter all over the pine cone, making sure you get each section. We found using a plastic knife was easier then a real knife because they bend easier.

Lay the pine cone on the paper and dumb bird seed over the pine cone. Transfer the pine cone to the other paper plate and flip cone on the side with no seed. Then take the paper plate with all the seed that didn't stick and dump in on the other plate. Do this until the pine cone has been well covered. Take outside and hang from a tree.

Orange Bird Feeder
Using fruit will attract different birds. Kind you would not see with just plain fruit.

Supplies:
Orange
Knife
Bird seed
chop stick
string
spoon

Take the knife (adults only) and cut off the top of the orange. Using the spoon, carefully scoop out the inside of the orange. We only scoop half of it out. Leaving some of the fruit for the birds.

Take the chop stick and punch four holes in the orange peel around the top of the orange. Thread your string through the holes and tie above with a double knot. Fill the rest of the pine cone with birdseed and hang from a tree. You will be amazed at the different types of birds your fruit feeder will bring.
