Cardiovascular activity is extremely important for every person, whether they're looking to start and exercise routine, to lose weight or even just to feel better and not feel so sedentary. Cardio is commonly referred to as any exercise that raises your heart rate. This includes walking, running or even riding your bike! This article will outline a few cardio activities that even beginners can accomplish:
Walking
Walking is one of the most common cardio exercises and is probably the most popular one there is. Why is it the most popular? Simply because you walk anywhere you go more than likely. It's an easy exercise that almost anyone can do, and the effects of walking are great. You build stamina and build strength in the legs through walking. The main appeal is that walking can be done almost anywhere without any specialized equipment or training.
Bicycling
Riding your bike is another extremely common cardio exercise and burns calories while using all the muscles in your legs. It's a great exercise because it can be done indoors or outdoors and even stationary now with the use of machinery. The only downfall to bike ridding is the cost of the bike.
Swimming is a full body exercise, which means you're involving more body parts in your exercising. If more body parts are involved, more calories will be burned. Swimming is great because it's very hard to be injured while swimming and you always have the water supporting you. Just make sure that if you're swimming to have another person close by, just in case.
Running
While running is similar to walking in many respects, it's much more efficient. If you can develop and maintain effective running habits, you will see a larger burn of calories and a faster building of muscle. Running is great like walking because it requires no special equipment and can be done almost anywhere. You have to be careful while running because it's easy to be injured in a fall depending on how you fall and how fast you are running.
There are many more cardio activities including but not limited to sports such as: racquetball, basketball and tennis. There are many other cardio activities out there. This article should give you an idea of what kinds of sports and activities can be regarded as cardio.
