1. The first, and obvious difference, is price. The Sony Playstation 3 sells for a whopping $599-$699 and the Nintendo Wii sells for a low $250.
2. One key thing the Sony Playstation 3 has that the Nintendo Wii does not is memory. The Sony Playstation 3 comes in two models, a 20GB system or a 60GB system. The Nintendo Wii does not have a hard drive installed like the Playstation. This is one reason the Playstation 3 sells for over $300 more.
3. The Nintendo Wii doesn't use the classic remote control. Nintendo revolutionized the remote control by using an interactive controller which increases the feeling that you are actually in the video game. Many have reported that the controller has broken their televisions when the controller flew out of their hands; This problem was shut down by Nintendo when they advised users that their is a strap to hold the controller to your hand. Sony also changed it's controller. The new controller sold with the PS3, the Sixaxis, has had minor changes. Sony has installed motion sensors into their controller so the controller knows when you are leaning it and tilting it. The Sixaxis also has moved the L2 and R2 buttons and tilted the analog sticks for maximum comfort and precision.
4. The Sony company has focused on fixing it's live play and getting it up to par with Xbox Live. They have succeeded in doing this. With Playstation Network you are able to communicate with friends, play games against up to 40 other people, search the Internet, and download new games and new content for games. The Nintendo Wii has a sort of Internet connection, nothing amazing though. You are able to send messages to other users and to cell phones, you can make your own "Mii" character which you can save to your controller, and you are able to watch the news and find out your local weather. You can download new games and content as well but you are not able to play against people like Xbox Live and the Playstation Network allow you to do.
There are many differences between the two systems but these are the four reasons that stuck out the most. To sum the two systems up, the Nintendo Wii has been set-up as more of a family system that all members of the family can play and the PS3 has been set-up as more of the same old system with new and improved features.
