Never mind that obesity is becoming an epidemic among our children! Playing outdoors is just plain fun! Here are some great ideas for your active or soon-to-be active child. Make it a family affair - make it a neighborhood affair!
1. Bladerunner Dynamo Adjustable In-Line Skates: We got our son adjustable skates similar to these, which retail at approximately $35. I thought skating might be too difficult for a five-year-old, but he took to it very quickly! The great thing about these skates is that they are adjustable up to four sizes, ideal for parents of young children who grow like weeds! Skating does wonders for balance and coordination not to mention strength and cardiovascular fitness. Remember to buy pads and a helmet and get ready to zoom around the neighborhood. Buy yourself some skates too and make it a workout for two or for the whole family!
2. Kettler Tricycle: This is truly an heirloom tricycle. We originally bought it for our son, but it has held up so well that our daughter now uses it. Kettler tricycles are of outstanding quality and have a price to match, but they are very sturdy and wellmade with features such as wide, air tires, t-safety straps, a steering wheel lock system to use when pushing with the push bar from behind, and an adjustable frame for growing toddlers. This makes the price well worth it! They are painted in bright primary colors that just enhance the fun! Approximately $75 to $200 depending on the optional features you select.
3. Eddie Bauer® Bocce Set and other outdoor games: Gather up the family and the neighbors and enjoy this Old World game together! This set retails for approximately $50, but there are far less and far more expensive sets, depending on your interest and needs! Other great outdoor games sets include croquet, badminton, and horseshoes. My kids love to play these outdoor games and it gives the family a nice activity to do together in the backyard.
4. Razor A Scooter: Buy a manual scooter like this one that retails for approximately $30 and let the fun and healthy exercise begin. Sure, there are motorized and electric scooters out there, but the idea is to get a little exercise while having a blast so go for the manual scooter! This particular scooter can hold up to 220 pounds so even Mom and Dad can take a spin! This lightweight scooter is also foldable to you can take it to the park or to Grandma's house without a problem.
So go out there and get active with your kids!
