4 Great Ways to Make Money While in College

Tips for College Students to Make Good Money While in School

K. Anderson
College students have a reputation for being poor and always having to scrounge up the change in order to buy a snack or go out. Why not change the image and help yourself out by figuring out a way to make a little extra cash? I'll help you out. Here are 4 great ways that college students can make money:

1-Babysitting

This has by far been a great source of income for me over my past three years in college. I began babysitting adorable kids when I was a freshman, and have been luckily enough to stick with them as well as network and babysit for other families over the years as well. If you get in good with a family, they will treat you great, and they will also recommend you to your friends. Also, most parents want to employ college students because they feel that we are older, more mature, and more reliable. If you don't know anyone, put an ad in the local newspaper, or search for some online websites close to where you live- trust me, there are people looking for babysitter's, you might just have to do a little searching to find them.

2-Online Writing

Online writing is an awesome way for college students to make money. We already sit and play on facebook all day anyways, so why not generate a little money by writing about your likes, dislikes, and things you are experiencing? Sites like Associated Content make it possible for you to do this. Now don't get me wrong, it's not a get rich quick job, but I allows you to sit in your room and not have to travel to and from a job. You can also write about anything that you like, so that makes the opportunities endless.

3-Lifeguard or Campus Gym

I have several friends who work for the campus gym or even lifeguard. This is a great job and there are benefits of being near the gym so that you are motivated to work out (and avoid gaining the freshman 15) as well as meet people. Check out your campus gym and see if they are hiring- at large universities like mine, it seems like they are always looking for new people.

4-Waiter/Waitress

If you are good with people, and can keep up with many things at once, waiting is a great job for you. This is how many college students make their living while taking classes. Whether you work for a high-end restaurant, or just a fast-food chain, you can make great money through tips.

So what makes me the expert on how to make money in college? Nothing. There are probably a lot of students who make a lot more money than me, however, I can tell you that as I'm sitting here writing this article, I am also babysitting (the kids are in bed of course). So I'm currently generating multiple sources of income, and all I have to do is sit on a couch and type on my computer (while occasionally checking Facebook). Doesn't sound too bad does it? So here's your chance- take my advice and follow through on one of these jobs- you'll be making more money than you were by doing nothing, and it will make your college experience a lot more fun if you have money to enjoy it with!
