While the basic service, including file storage, is free the telephone recording option costs $99 per year. Once you have recorded your podcast by telephone (toll free 800 number) or recorded your podcast with your own software and uploaded it, you have the option of including music from their affiliated site GarageBand.com. Once you've selected all the files you want to include in your podcast, GCast's playlist manager helps mix audio and organize files into a continuous MP3. GCast automatically generates a channel with an episode list for your podcast.
The Free Music Archive is a library audio downloads that have been pre-cleared for use on podcasts. The site is curated by WFMU a New Jersey radio station that is renowned for innovation. Inspired by Creative Commons and the open source software movement the free music archive encourages the sharing of music. Tips are encouraged. The site offers links to musician's Paypal accounts. Unlike many social music sites, the Free Music Archive is curated. Music is only uploaded once it has been approved. The quality of music on the site is high.
PodOmatic combines the networking aspects of social media sites like Facebook with an easy to use web based podcast creation tools. Creation, distribution, and promotion can be handled all in one place. With a microphone and an optional webcam, podcasters can create their show and get it distributed in a few relatively easy steps. Podomatic podcasts are Itunes ready. The site provides detailed information on how to upload.
Transcribr from Enablr may be the easiest web tool ever created. It's so easy in fact the site doesn't have a separate FAQ or help page. Transcribr translates audio files into text. For $1 per minute of audio, you receive a searchable text file that can be embedded in your blog or website. Audio is great but combining it with content that search engines can find is even better.
