When thinking of haunted houses in Indianapolis, one name comes immediately to everyone's mind: Necropolis. Necropolis is a cluster of three haunted attractions located at 2525 Shadeland Avenue. You can get into any one of the three attractions (Necropolis, Zombie Inn or Dark Terrors) for $18, or get access to all three for $26. If adults want immediate access to Necropolis, add $9 to those prices. Children under 12 can get in for $10, or $15 for all three. This haunted house only sells children's tickets for the first hour, but warns that it does not tone down the fear for kids. Necropolis opens October 1-2, 8-9, and 13-31. The haunted house runs from 7pm-10pm Sunday-Thursday and 7pm-midnight Friday and Saturday.
Necropolis boasts 30,000 square feet of haunted house located in the old Western Electric Plant. Zombie Inn adds a hotel theme, taking visitors on a tour of room after room of the zombie infested hotel. Dark Terrors completes the trio when guests enter the abandoned factory to meet the last remaining scientist conducting experiments. When the power fails, visitors get a special Dark Terrors flashlight that has some dark secrets of its own. Nuvo Magazine warns, "These guys are serious."
Fright Manor is also an established haunted house in Indianapolis. Located at 2909 South Meridian Street, Fright Manor is open this year on October 1-2, 8-9, 15-16, and 20-31, from 7pm-10pm Sunday-Thursday and 7pm-midnight Friday and Saturday. The two attractions at Fright Manor are called the Abandoned and the Psychomanthium, both available for a $20 admission fee. In 2008, Nuvo called Fright Manor the "reliable old faithful" of Indianapolis' haunted houses.
Indianapolis also has plenty of haunted attractions for young children and families. The Indianapolis ZooBoo is a popular event amongst young families in Indianapolis. This year's Halloween ZooBoo takes place October 15-17, 21-24 and 28-30. ZooBoo activities run from 2-7pm. Kids come in costume to pumpkin bowl or smash and visit Halloween-themed animal shows. Other activities include a bounce house, music, hay maze, and more. Trick or treat stations will also be set up around the zoo. Zoo members can get into the ZooBoo for free; it is also included in regular zoo admission.
Finally, this year the Children's Museum is presenting its 47th annual haunted house, Skeletown, from October 16-31. Tickets are $5.50 at Marsh and $6.50 at the door. Children under 2 get in free. Earlier hours are offered for younger kids who may scare easily, but by 3:30pm the gloves are off. The haunted house is open until 9 or 9:30pm, depending on the day of the week. Also enjoy the Children's Museum's "Feast with the Witches" event. For $15 a person, you can enjoy a breakfast, lunch, or dinner buffet with witches, Halloween entertainment, and a ticket to Skeletown. This option is available for breakfast on Saturdays, October 23 and 30, lunch on Thursday, October 21 and Sundays October 24 and 31, and dinner on Tuesday, October 26. Finally, for families that dare to be scared, the Children's Museum of Indianapolis offers a Late Night Adventure at Skeletown. On Friday, October 22, your family can enjoy dinner at the museum and a special lights-out, behind-the-scenes tour of Skeletown, as well as a special planetarium show. The event lasts from 6:30pm-11pm and costs $25. Capacity is limited.
