Even Geeks Can Have a Little Fun...

Even huge fans of the internet can have a great time and they prove it every year with Internet Week New York. This year, there were a number of great events during the week. Find out what you missed out of and start planning for 2011 today!

New York Tech Meetup

On Tuesday evening, the biggest public event went off with a bang. There was a demo area with over 800 companies letting people try out their products and advertising their services. One of the most surprising events was Scott Heiferman (co-founder of Meetup) grabbing an iPad from the audience and smashing it with a sledge hammer on stage as a joke, proclaiming that sometimes it takes a sledgehammer to get one of the internet. Groupon founder Andrew Mason shared his inspirational life story with the crowd as well.

Obliterati Party

A party is held every month in Lower East Side's Sweet & Vicious bar and for Internet Week they decided to kick it up a step further. This crazy geek bar included a live stream of tweets describing the party itself on a big screen and the bar offered special deals with their margarita machines. There were also some good guests including actor Andrew Keegan and CNBC's John Carney. It was a night to remember!

Yahoo! Provoke Summit

On Monday, humorist and public speaker Ze Frank offered a keynote speech that won't be soon forgotten. He made jokes about connectivity, the internet in general, and even offered some clever artistic uses for hate mail. The speaker was incredibly entertaining to everyone who attended. Other speakers included Seth Goldstein of Stickybits and Matt Szymczyk of Zugara.

Digital Content NewFront

Wednesday afternoon revealed to us this year's DCNF. This year there were some big names as WSJ tech and media editor Kara Swisher interviewed the famous Martha Stewart on stage, along with Huffington Post's Arianna Huffington. The panel sessions were made up of musician Pete Wentz and actors Teri Hatcher, Seth Green, Lisa Kudrow. They talked about what they love about the web and their own online projects and ideas. It was a great day.

These are just four of the great events that happened during Internet Week. Mark your calendar for next year and try to find a way to make it to New York so you can see it all first hand!
