4 HILARIOUS Atheist Comedians

Charlotte Whitten
Speaking from experience, atheists can find themselves the most alienated sector of society in regards to religion. People constantly take pity on atheists and try to convert them to their religion, whether it's Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, etc. If you are an atheist who is fed up with being the societal whipping boy, listen to these four atheist comedians to find escape from the religious persecution.

Atheist Comedians: George Carlin

Though he passed away in June 2008, George Carlin's clever dismantlement of the logic behind religion is memorable and gut-wrenchingly humorous. Though he 'really did try' to do the whole 'religion thing', the paradoxes associated with God and his existence got to him in the end. Go on Youtube.com and search for 'Religion and God' and 'Religion is Bullshit'. Though he is very liberal with the swearwords, he is undeniable funny (and true).

Atheist Comedians: Eddie Izzard

Eddie Izzard is a British, transvestite comedian and voice-over artist. In addition to his skits on religion, he has some wonderful things to say about Christopher Columbus, and Europeans in general. Go onto YouTube and search for 'Religion a la Eddie Izzard' and 'Religion and Dinosaurs'. He is in full, glamorous costume and makeup in some of his skits, which (while I think it's hilarious) may shock some people.

Atheist Comedians: Dane Cook

While he isn't a self-proclaimed atheist, Dane Cook has some funny things to say about his Catholic upbringing. He pokes fun at communion, comparing it to a 'Christ Cereal', and the practice of greeting everyone around you in church. People who were raised as Christians and made to go to church every Sunday will surely be able to commiserate with some of the less-than-enjoyable religious chores and activities. You can also find him on YouTube under the taglines 'Dane Cook - Atheists' and 'Dane Cook on Religion'.

Atheist Comedians: Stephen Lynch

Stephen Lynch is stand-up comedian who also plays guitar and composes humorous ditties about the fallacies of organized religion as well as various aspects of popular culture. Go on YouTube and search 'Stephen Lynch: Craig' to find a funny dissertation on Jesus Christ's lesser known older brother.

Atheist Comedians: Conclusion

Listening to the short skits and songs done by these four atheist comedians has certainly kept me sane in the face of atheist-directed religious persecution. Though I find some of them to be overly antagonistic towards the followers of organized religion that don't pick on atheists, most of the commentary is spot-on, and the humor is hilarious. Enjoy!

So you list four atheist comedians and include Dane Cook? Have you never seen his atheist bit? If you want an atheist comedian to put on the list how about Kathy Griffin, Patton Oswalt, Jim Jeffries, David Cross, Ricky Gervais, or Julia Sweeney?

And they will all burn in hell!! (Just kidding)
