Ahh, bacteria and mold. 2 things nobody wants breeding and thriving in their home, but more than likely are doing just that. 4 items in nearly every single household love to breed bacteria and mold, and we don't even think about cleaning them most of the time! Learn 4 household items that you should be cleaning, but you don't. You won't be that surprised, but you'll be wondering how you could let these things get right by you.
Your garbage can is a host for nasty bacteria and mold to thrive. Think about it- how many times have you had a bag break inside of the can, or you forgoed the bag entirely and just filled up your naked garbage can full of garbage without a barrier? And how often do you clean this garbage can out? Did I hear, never? Yeah, once I realized this too, I thought, duh. Clean out that garbage can once a week or so, or else you are just asking that bacteria to just plain thrive.
Your shower curtain loves to breed mold and rust, and when you shower, you leave that poor sucker wet and ready to hold onto mold and fungi that can cause nasty infection. Make sure that you clean your bathroom tile regularly, which we often do anyhow, but when you do, don't forget to take care of that shower curtain. Shower curtains can get seriously nasty (mine grew bright green mold once) if you ignore them. You don't want to shower with mold, do you? (don't forget your shower doors, too, if you have one. The creases can be green with mold).
Your telephone receiver is a host for flu and cold germs. Think about it- you talk on the phone, sneeze into it, cough into it, kinda sorta spit on it...well, you get the point. There is a reason people in the workplace wipe down the keyboards and phones when there is a cough going around- use a disinfecting wipe on your telephone receiver (and a community cell phone) to prevent spreading germs.
Does your dishwasher have a weird odor? Well, mold and mildew can be to blame, and taking a good look along the seams of your dishwasher can give you a real good clue as to where that smell is coming from. Just like your shower curtain, a wet, moist dishwasher can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Give it a good washing on its own with no dishes in it, then allow it air dry with the door open afterwards. Vinegar is a great natural dishwasher cleaner, cheap, too!
note: vinegar is a great cleaning aid for many molds and bacteria. Mix equal parts vinegar and water and place in a spray bottle to clean up most bacteria safely. The odor fades as soon as it dries.
