4 Ideas for Decorating Your Home with Christmas Lights
Tips for Decorating Your Porch, Windows, Doors and Fences with Christmas Lights.
Decorating your home with Christmas lights does not have to be extravagant; it can be simple and easy. In this article, I will explain the simple ways I decorate my home with Christmas lights.
Decorating Your Home with Christmas Lights - Porch
For the homeowners who have porches decorating with Christmas lights is fairly simple and easy. Place red bows at the ends of the porch rails and in the center. Next, place Christmas lights so that they hang in a sweeping motion across the front of your porch. For the stairs leading up to your porch, run lights up the railings. I like to use either multicolor or clear lights for decorating the porch for Christmas.
Decorating Your Home with Christmas Lights - Yard
My yard has shrubs and small trees that are great for decorating with red Christmas lights. Red net Christmas lights work best on shrubs, the net lights allow you to drape them over the shrub, which makes its a lot easier when decorating. When I decorate my small trees, I start at the top of the tree by winding the red Christmas lights around the branches and down towards the bottom of the tree. Once I am at the trunk of the tree, I like to use green Christmas lights. This gives a cute look to small trees.
Decorating Your Home with Christmas Lights - Windows and Doors
If I have used all multicolored Christmas lights on my porch I will use clear Christmas lights for windows and doors and vice versa. I run the Christmas lights completely around the inside corners of the windows and place a clear Christmas candle of the opposite color I am using in the windows. For doors, I run Christmas lights along the top and drape them down the sides of the door. I then added a lighted Christmas wreath to the door.
Decorating Your Home with Christmas Lights - Fence
Fences are fun to decorate with Christmas lights. I usually hang multicolored Christmas lights in a sweeping motion with gold bows on each post. Lighted Christmas garland looks great hanging from fences as well. Place a blow up Santa in the middle of the fence for an added effect.
