1. Acting jealous. In the majority of marriages, even if one partner has straying tendencies, the honeymoon is usually safe. While on your honeymoon, refrain from expressing your jealousy when your spouse happens to watch a scantily clad person of the opposite sex wander down the beach. 99% of the time, this is completely innocent and although a little protectiveness might be seen as endearing, a full on green-eyed monster attack can be a bit much. This is a good way to end your honeymoon early!
2. Forgetting the birth control. Definitely not a good way to end your honeymoon, in complete uncertainty as to whether or not you are expecting. Although many couples plan to have children down the road, a honeymoon conception is not generally in the plans. However, it does happen, so make sure that you have your preferred method of contraception on you and if you should somehow forget it, find a backup option. To avoid problems with lost luggage, you can keep your birth control in your hand luggage.
3. Not having time alone. There is a common misconception that the honeymoon is to be spent together . . . 24-7. This not only is not true, but it can cause some major problems in a beginning relationship, especially if you did not previously live with your spouse. The sudden closeness of the honeymoon can make even the most loving couple feel claustrophobic, but most people believe that they must be together for a honeymoon. Both of you will benefit by taking time apart from time to time. This is ideal for differing interests, too. She might want to sunbathe and shop while he is more interested in scuba diving and watching the football game. This way, neither partner feels smothered.
4. Running up a debt. You need to budget your honeymoon before the wedding. This is the only way it will actually be relaxing, if you know that you have the money to cover it. Some couples try to ignore this and they head off to expensive resorts in exotic places where they run up their credit cards and end up in severe debt. This not only puts stress on the honeymoon, it also sets you up for financial problems and fights once you return home. It is better to settle for a shorter honeymoon than cause such difficulties in a new marriage.
The honeymoon is a wonderful time for a new couple . . . if they take care to keep it that way. Your honeymoon can be calm and relaxing just by avoiding the mistakes listed above. Otherwise, paradise can quickly turn into a disaster!

Great article! Everyone should read this before their honeymoon. I know it's a typo, but I got a giggle out of the phrase in your first paragraph "find a hot tropical local" where I know you meant locale. No hot tropical locals now - it's your honeymoon!
Very true. Especially Number 4, running up debt.
All excellent points. Of course I never had a honeymoon so didn't have to worry about any of these.
