4 Reasons to Say No to Alcohol at Prom

Kendra Dahlstrom
Prom is filled with memories of friends, music, fancy dresses, and good food. What would happen if your memory of prom was filled with vomiting and suspension? This is what alcohol can do to your prom experience. Not only are there several reasons to avoid alcohol at your prom, but there are also many reasons to avoid alcohol in your teenage years completely. Nonetheless, many students turned to alcohol on prom night anyway. Perhaps if they were informed of the consequences they would not partake in illegal activities. For those teenagers, I have written this article on the 4 reasons to say no to alcohol at prom.

Loss of Memory
Prom is supposed to be one of the most memorable nights of a high school students career. Alcohol has a tendency to hinder a person's memory. Unfortunately, students who use alcohol on prom night may lose the precious memories they could have had. Yes, others can tell you what happened, and you may have pictures, but pictures and stories are nothing compared to your own memories of the night.

Appearance
How much money did you spend on your prom dress? Where did you get your hair done? Did you pay for your makeup done? How long did it take you to get ready for prom? These questions are all questions you should be asking yourself before taking a drink of alcohol. Have you ever looked at a picture of yourself drunk? Alcohol has a tendency to make people look unattractive. Prom is one of the only nights and which your appearance is utterly important. Don't ruin all your hard work for just a couple of beers.

Behavior
The last thing you want to be remembered for at the problem is how stupid you acted. While you're drinking, at the time, you may think you're the funniest person in the world. However, any sober person attending the prom will find you extremely annoying, stupid, and rude. Do You really want to be remembered as the annoying girl at prom?

Suspension
A high school dance usually has the same rules as if you were attending classes. This means, alcohol, and any drug is not tolerated. Many schools, mine included, have suspension policies. If any student was caught in class, or at prom with alcohol or under the influence of alcohol, they would be suspended for a week at my high school. Can you imagine risking your school record just for a few drinks of alcohol?

Prom night is supposed to be a magical night. Don't risk losing precious memories, you're beautiful appearance, acceptable behavior, and your school record just for alcohol. There are so many more ways to have fun at prom that do not include alcohol.
