4 Reasons to Start a Blog

DeeDee
Not long ago, as a writer, I couldn't possibly wrap my head around why anyone would want to write a blog. I was use to writing non-fiction articles for online and print media that could be sold for money and to gain experience for bigger and better projects. Why would I want to sit around and write, what I thought, was a journal. It seemed like a waste of time. I had plenty of those to record things from trips and other life matters, that I might forget. So why would sitting around chatting like that benefit me?

I started to look into the matter a little more and realized there was a whole lot that I was missing out on. Blogs are so beneficial for so many reasons.

Inspire others
As I started to explore the idea of blogs, I decided that I better immerse myself in the blogosphere to learn it better, so I start my own blog "Blessings from Above." The idea of the blog is to focus on things in our everyday lives that are blessings from God. You know that coffee that you spilled on your outfit RIGHT before you were going to walk out the door to work? You were so mad about it, but guess what? That delay was a blessing from God. You may have been involved in a car accident and God was helping you to avoid it. It's things like these that I focus on on my blog. And to be honest, writing it isn't ALL for my audience. It forces me to sit down and look for blessings in my life too. My ultimate goal, though, is to inspire others to be more appreciative of all we have and to find more positive things in their lives. You can find the link for "Blessings from Above" under the links section of this page.

Accountability
Just recently one of my good friends decided to start a blog of her own to help hold her accountable to her goal of not spending any money for the next 30 days. She's been reporting how she is bartering, reusing, and repurposing things she needs so that she doesn't spend any money on things other than necessities like food, gas, etc. It's a great deal of fun to watch her progress through her goal. She's doing quite well!

Education
Another good friend of mine found a blog that she just loves - the blogger shares with her readers all the different crafts she makes and how to make them. There are plenty of photographs and directions and it has my girlfriend hooked. As you can imagine, crafts are just one thing you can learn about from a blog. There are endless blogs out there with other useful information like financial advice, cooking tips, and more. Even nuns are blogs these days to bring people to the Lord and to better understand their way of life!

Marketing
Getting the word out about ones product or service is a top for priority for most people these days. I couldn't even get down the frozen food aisle of my local grocery story without being chased by a man (he literally follow me to the next aisle!) trying to sell me a subscription to the local newspaper. So it goes without saying that blogs can be another form of marketing. Businesses like Microsoft "talk" with their audience through blogs to provide information, but in the end, they are really doing it another form of advertising for their products.

Try blogging for yourself or trying reading blogs. There are plenty to check out!

These are all good reasons to start a blog. The problem I have is keeping up with a blog once I start it!
