4 Reasons Why You Should Not Work from Home

Should You Work from Home?

Marsha J
Most people would like to work from home because there is no commute, you can usually work whenever you want to, wake up whenever you want to, and work in your pajamas. There are a lot of perks that comes with a work from home job but before someone goes and gets a job that requires them to work from home, they should sit down and go over the pros and cons. The pros are easy and are usually the factors that drive many to work from home. Looking at the cons however, it is easy to see that one should find out if they can or should work from home.

Should You Work From Home - Setting A Schedule

When working at a regular job there is a schedule that has to be kept. Working from home in most cases, you make your own schedule and this can work for some but others can find that they only work whenever they feel like it. That can be a bad attitude to have when they discover that they have not done as much work as they thought that they would. A work from home schedule is especially important for parents who have small children who stay at home with them. Children can and will be a distraction so a good time to work should be scheduled around the children's own daily schedule.

Should You Work From Home - Paycheck

Try not to jump in the work from home jobs until your finances are secure because most work from home jobs only pay once a month. You will find some places that pay weekly or bi-weekly but even more pay just monthly. Getting paid monthly can set you back badly if you need to pay the bills at a certain time and you do not have any money to pay it and you are waiting on your paycheck from your work from home job. Have all your bills paid and try to start a month or so before you have to pay rent or utility bills again. Also be aware that most work from home jobs have training before you start which can last from a few days to a few months and not all work from home jobs pay you for the training.

Should You Work From Home - No Boss

In a work from home job you are your own boss. This means that no one is pushing you to reach a certain quota and unfortunately some people do need to have someone looking over their shoulder to make sure that they are working. For someone like this, a work from home job is not ideal and they will end up not making any money because they will not have to will to get started or even finish jobs on their own. The same goes for someone who procrastinates often. You could easily find that tomorrow you will finish your work and everyday tomorrow never comes. Even though you will work your own hours a lot of work from home jobs does want you to work a certain amount of time each week.

Should You Work From Home - Insurance and Benefits

Getting a work from home job that pays you well enough to get private health insurance is a must because if you do not have at least one person in the home who gets benefits for the household you will find that medical bills will pile up, leaving you in worse shape than before. To my knowledge there are no work from home jobs that give benefits because you are not an actual employee, you are considered to be a work from home contractor. Some work from home jobs also have a limit of up to 30 hours which would make it a part time job because in a lot of places working 40 hours or more is full time and employers do not want to pay extra money and benefits which is why they hire work from home contractors to begin with.

I think that just about anyone can work from home but they need to have the will to do the job and the desire to continue everyday or every week. Having the proper area that is uncluttered and quiet is a must for any work from home agent and it is hard to get along without your own space. Do some research and go to websites such as WAHM and speak to some people who have and do work from home and get their take on the difficulty of working from home yourself. Also be sure to check out any company you come across before signing up. If a company asks for a fee do not join. Valid work from home companies does not ask you to pay to get a job. The only time you might be asked for money from a few work from home companies will be to pay for a background check and drug test. Not all companies ask for these things.

Holy crap this is some poor writing. Christ, I hope nobody paid this chick. Tammy, you probably didn't notice because you are also a poor writer. Hasn't anybody heard of 'proofreading'? It's not just for spelling. It's also for sentence and paragraph structure. Some of this article is marginal, but I can hardly focus on the pertinent information because most of the structure is akin to fingernails on a chalk board. Marsha, find the nearest community college and take refresher english and writing courses. You can even find them online. (Oh snap!)

Wow - why is this article rated so low? It has great info that one really needs to think about before working from home. Sometimes too, there are extra costs like getting a transcribing thing set up on your computer, or having an extra phone line installed. These are more issues people might not want to mess with for whatever reason. Getting paid once a month isn't too bad. When I worked in Japan, I received Y250,000 once a month. At first it was kind of stressful, because while this money wasn't going towards anything but daycare, I was a shopaholic, and it was a long wait in that sense. You get used to it after a while though and after a few years of that (lol) you start to wonder why people prefer 2 paychecks, when you can just wait for a monthly lump sum. Maybe I was in denial. :)
