4 Signs It's Time to Seek Therapy in Your Relationship

Michelle Knudson
There are several times in life that one must seek therapy in order to help them overcome problems. Nobody goes through life without being bothered by something that has happened in their life. Here are four signs it's time to seek therapy.

Grief

The loss of someone no matter how close we were to them bothers us. Grief is something that people need to seek a therapist in order to deal with indirect feelings of guilt. We always wonder if there was something that we could of done to save someone or perhaps we failed them somehow. Grief can destroy a person inside to the point of going off the deep end if therapy isn't sought since he or she doesn't how to handle it anymore.

Abandonment

Someone that has walked the door on us such as a mother or father several times in our life can cause abandonment issues. Abandonment issues can be caused by a mother that always sent the child away whenever she chose her boyfriends over her kid, wanted to party, and travel. Abandonment issues can be caused by a mother that always sent her kid away for the summer as punishment. It destroys the relationship. It makes adult individuals just cling onto people even further due to the abandonment issues from their childhood or early adult years.

Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse is something that people can't overcome very well at all since the body never forgets. Sexual abuse can cause anyone to need therapy since it can bug them in certain parts of their life. Sexual abuse victims can end up making their partners wear underwear to bed for several years until they seek therapy for the underlying reasons why. A mother might be overprotective of the daughter due to herself being sexually abused as a young child. Sexual abuse issues that are not worked out in therapy can drift over into parts of life that cause relationships to be destroyed by overwhelming people.

Manipulation

People that played with your mind and other forms of deception have damaged you in a way that only therapy can repair. Manipulation victims can be overprotective of everything and controlling since someone once screwed them over in life. A person that has been deceived several times in life desperately needs therapy due to all insecurity issues that come out indirectly into other relationships as a result of past people that caused the whole mess.

I'd like to close with saying that the three main things that you need to seek therapy are grief, sexual abuse, and abandonment. Manipulation is another thing that you should seek therapy for if you notice that you've been damaged by the other past people in life. For one's mental health, it's important to work out the feelings left behind by the things that have happened. Therapy won't help you forget what happened but it will give you the tools to deal with what happened in a non-destructive manner. Good luck.
