4 Situations Where Ordinary People Can Excel as Leaders

Marty K.
America is a land of great opportunity. We are able to be bosses in our own world as sovereign citizens, and this is largely what freedom is about. Along with this comes great responsibility and the purpose should go beyond ego building. Let's take a look at some of the areas in our lives where responsible people can create a better world.

1. Boss of One's Own Business

Many people believe that acquiring one's own business is too complex, too difficult or mysterious in some way. They believe it is for "the rich," or those who have special advantages in life. Moreover, a lot of individuals only concern themselves with surviving (which is important), but don't put in the time or effort to go beyond their jobs and build for their own lives.

There are simple services one can perform to make decent amounts of money with minimal start-up costs. Cleaning services of various sorts and specialties is one example, as is landscape maintenance, which I described in my article: Here.

Some people have acquired paint cans with stencils and have become their own entrepreneurs by painting fresh curb numbers in front of houses for a modest price. These are just a few examples that show how people can be become their own sovereign beings with just a little bit of effort.

2. Consumers as the Boss of Corporations

Without the customer or client, every business I know of is nothing. Every purchaser is, in a significant manner of speaking, a boss. Of course, you cannot hire people, fire people or perform every function of an employer. However, you can control sales and your continuance of doing business with a particular company is of paramount importance.

Whenever I contact customer service of a company, I remind them of all this and then make my recommendations accordingly.

I was in a large chain store the other day and there was a group of company executives, or "suits." They were walking around meticulously going over things, and I'm certain that most of the store's employees trembled before them. As I walked by them, however, they recognized me as client, and I commented, "I appreciate the job you guys are doing" (as a person in charge might normally do with managers). They immediately thanked me, and I sensed that everyone recognized that I was aware of people's overall performance).

3. Citizens as the Leaders of Government Servants

It is written in the Declaration of Independence that to secure unalienable rights, "Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed." It continues, "That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government..."

This is very "powerful stuff," and it is often forgotten in today's world. It is an indication that ordinary citizens not only have a right to be a master or their government and politicians, but an actual duty.

4. A Leader in One's Home

A head of household has great responsibility and requirements for being a leader in one's home require love, effort, the soundest of judgment and often sacrifice. Truly, this role is performed for the benefits of loved ones, above and beyond one's own profit or aggrandizement.

Conscientious wives, husbands, mothers and fathers are a special breed and sovereign citizens of the highest order. They help not only their families and loved ones, but all of our society.

Combining any or all of these responsibilities would, of course, be very commendable.
