Color
When shopping for your outfit, whether in your closet or at the local boutique. Look for festive fall tones of emerald green, purple, teal, grey, or a classic tone of red that suites your skin tone. Make a mental note of all the colors you look fabulous in. If you are worried about wearing color, instead of being safe with wearing all black, consider mixing up basic black with white, silver, or gold.
Be prepared.
Most holiday and special occasion outfits are form fitting. Even the skinniest of us, needs a secret weapon, to appear as if we have been hitting the gym, or have lost a few pounds. Wear your best bra and shape wear when trying on clothes. If you have no shape wear, consider control top pantyhose and a seamless bra.
Style.
Consider the cut of what you will be wearing. Look for classic cuts of a style that you like, so that you can wear it again. Look for styles that will flatter your body. Do not assume that tight and sparkly is the way to go. For example, a wrap dress or top is very forgiving on many body types. A deep v is flattering for those with larger bust lines. A super tight spaghetti strap dress may not have the most flattering fit for someone with a less ample bust line. However wider straps, halter or backless style, may look stunning. Try on several different tops and dresses to see what flatters your figure. After you know exactly what style looks good, look specifically for the color your want. This would be an easy task for a friend or sales associate to help you with.
Accessories
Once you have narrowed down your clothing selections, put the whole outfit on. Then look for necklaces of different lengths to try on with your outfits. If you are wearing a strapless top, look for a necklace that is choker length. After selecting your necklace, look for the matching earrings, bracelet or watch. If your accessories have silver in them, try out silver shoes. Look for handbags with hints of silver, or gold. Bronze is a great alternative to gold. Do not feel obligated to perfectly match your purse, shoes, or belt. Think blending, while viewing your complete outfit.
If you are plus sized, and find the perfect necklace or bracelet, and the fit is too tight, buy the necklace. Visit the jewelry section of any jewelry chain store, or larger department stores to purchase an extender. These normally are only a few dollars.
Look Effortless.
Save time this holiday season by quickly putting together the perfect holiday ensemble. Know what colors flatter your skin tone. Wearing your best shape wear while trying on possible outfits. Select shapes that are flattering and you feel comfortable in. Keep the wining outfit on, while you try out shoes and accessories.
